I was throwing a Sweet Shad 66 from Ace last night after a commando like treck over a moor to get to a secret trout water I discovered. I had 3 to 12lbs but the water level was very low, which is odd considering the amount of rain we've been having but hey-ho, at least I didn't blank. I also caught 2 perch on a 11cm jointed Abu Terminator, which was good.

If you HAD to choose your favourite technique to catch Pike what would it be and why? (Lure, live bait, dead bait, float set up, sunk float, ledgered.)

Before you all get philosophical about different venues, conditions etc requiring different techniques, it is only YOUR view about if you HAD to pick your favourite, not necessarily which would work best. Mine is fishing a shallow lure on a dyke i know and watching the pike come ...

I have used size 4 doubles from Partridge in the past but I missed a good number of runs so I am now happier using trebles in size 6 and 8. I use a standard two hook rig with no bells and whistles (or sleeves etc).

Not new to piking but limited it to around Yorkshire. I am a bailiff for a local club and look forward to chatting to a great bunch of lads on here with a vast amount of pike knowledge.

My best fish is a 19.14oz from the deep section on the river Ure at Ripon, although i don't fish for targets and appreciate all fish that come my way.

In summer i spread my time between river barbel/chub,carp fishing, bit of piking and my yearly trip/holiday down to Devon for ...

Some of you may remember the recent environment agency consultation on the taking of fish from rivers. Pike anglers were concerned about the proposed new laws preventing the removal of fish from rivers. It seems that the EA has listened to our concerns and will allow the taking of a small number of fish for personal use as bait.

New to these forums so be gentle on me!

Just coming back into lure fishing for pike after a 12 year break. Used to have a lot of luck in the pits around here but have tried recently and blanked each time. I know it's late in the season for a lure but would have expected some follows at least. (may be I have just lost the touch or more likley forgotten how)

Anyways, are there any lure fishing members who haunt the Fens / St Ives / Cambs area who would can help me out?

i know if some one asked me the same question i would say stay while the goings good, but i cant help thinking it might just not be the best thing for these fish as there are a number of others fishing for them also. any one got any thoughts?

Hi all,

I'm going for a mornings piking armed with dead-baits.

I've only got a few hours so don't want to sit behind static baits, preferring mobile tactics, i.e. wobbled dead-baits.

The weir-pool I intend to fish is rather snaggy and it's easy to loose baits and tackle if you're not careful.

WIth this Im thinking I might wobble the baits under a float set 18-inches off bottom and away from the snags...

What's your thoughts please, do you think it will reduce the action ...
