After you've raked a swim, how quickly can you expect to find tench (assuming there's a reasonable enough population) in that area investigating what's been kicked up or fed in??

Are we talking immediately, hours, a day, days.....what??

I've seen tench activity in a certain swim but it's almost unfishable but some kindly fellow tenchers made me some rakes but I'm not sure whether to rake a known patrol area and then bang a bait in right away or rake and pre-bait, rake and pre-bait ...

Managed to lose a 'mystery fish' on the Trent yesterday. Big Chris from here recommended a place to try for Barbel so i gave it a go, finally! Trent Piker catches some Pike at this venue too. I was fishing a 12mm Halibut pellet on the edge of some fast water, well slower than normal, the Trent is low & clear at the moment!

I had a sharp Chub like bite that i missed by a mile. All went quiet so i reeled in after a few minutes to check the bait was still on

I felt what seemed like ...

Hi Guys,

Looking for any recommendations for a nice reel to add to my stalking set up for carp. My budget is between £60 and £100. I have looked at reels from Shimano, Fox and Okuma so far but I am baffled by all the choice available. I need something fairly compact and lightweight that will hold a reasonable amount of 12lb to 15lb line. Something that is reliable. I wondered if anyone had any recommendations or suggestions, any other brands etc..?? Personal experiences with good reels..?? ...

Well lads and lasses, the stuff I made was indistinguishable by any of my mates. Only one knew it wasn't right because the colour was darker. The smell was very much the same as Dynamite Strawberry.

The Board proposes to create this Otter Park in the lower reaches of the River Weaver between Winsford & Northwich, this section is slow flowing and fairly canalised. It holds a good number of specimen fish including good sized Carp & Pike. Wanna try a zig on a local lake as all my action carp wise is off the top (its a 10 top 1 bottom ratio). I had 2 rods on floaters today for the 1st time for about 10 minutes and realised that it was a dog to keep under control with wind, etc hence the need for a zig rig. Any help on the rig or suggestions of others which would hold a floater stationary would be great.

Used those rubber dog biccis today for the 1st time which are counter ballanced so the hook sits out ...

Been doing a bit of ledgering on the Trent, as I used to do 15 or so years back. I have tried the popular Halibut Pellets, just fished on the hook minus a feeder or anything.. I have never been one for chucking loads of feed & groundbaits in. I will try a feeder & some loose bait plugged in with groundbait next time, mind you.

I used to go for a few hours around dark & cast a 1/2" luncheon meat cube out, complete with a grass blade over the hook bend, a few rod lengths out ...

I'm after a good rake design and I'd like some of the Tench crew in here to scrutinise my Tench techniques.

I've been on a bit of Scottish Tench campaign at the moment with 1 fish to my name, which isn't bad really for 3 sessions.

I have a new water with a swim clearance problem and I need a rake. It doesn't have to be huge because the water isn't massive and there are only so any areas we want cleared. Just enough to get a rod (2 at a push but probably a legered rig with a waggler ...

Went fishing today on a local 4 pond venue and went to the back pond where it is quite shaded by plenty of trees along the banks.

I got fed up of counting when I reached 124 banked fish!

This was by 12:30pm and I was there until 4:45pm. Must have easily reached 200 fish by home time.

Admittedly, 95% of them were small roach and perch from one particular spot in the edge, but what a great deal of fun!

I also got my pb (for that venue) mirror carp off the top. Never had any ...

I had several bites but I had been fishing a sliding leger and my reactions weren't up to scratch so I swapped to a bolt-rig and hey presto. 3 fish in short succession.

Hehe....I didn't get my Tench but who cares? I had a great laugh.

Secondly, the new style licences are getting slated in the angling press. This laminated section, it is said, is difficult to extract from the letter, and when you do finally cut yours out it falls apart. Oh, and finally it is impossible to sign.

I will find out when mine arrives.

Club membership renewals will be lower.

There is not a shred of evidence to support a claim that all year round sport does any harm to fish stocks.

Closed Season River Fishing

Apparantely it is OK to fish the rivers during the "closed" season.

It must be because I saw someone fishing the River Torne yesterday on Bawtry Road. And that is now the third person I have seen there since the closed season started.

Far be it from me to interfere with a potential nutcase and their chosen fishing venue, but do you think the EA will act if I report the next one?

It really is annoying to see this blatant ignorance / disregard of the law.
