Re: ANYBODY CATCHING??
well my last 2 trips have been abit of a struggle carp fishing at a lake i found on the net, the web site said it was quality had fish in it to 28lb but when i got there it was a puddle in the ground could not stop laughing, anyway i blanked (tried every think)spent 24hours there,(dont beleve every think u read on the net lol).
and my last trip sunday just gone i was targeting tench at pakington summers, put a rod on a alarm set up with a fake corn and red maggot cocktail on the hair and baited with groundbait, had 4 bream i whould say about 2lb to 3lb but no tench
, and the other rod i switched from method, to maggot feeder then to my float rod, still no tench!!! plenty of bream ,rudd, silver bream and roach nuffink of anysize tho, and right at the end of the day i hooked a tench on my float rod, played it for about 5mins was easy going to beat my pb, and guess what the hook pulled right at the net
to the amusement of my mate, who by the way had already caught a couple of nice tench!
so no carp or tench in my last 2 trips

lol brookie i've been spending most of the last 3 summers on one excellent local water after the tench and bream.... so far i've had 50+ bream to around 5lb on every visit and not one tench..... both species run to double figures in this water so i've gotta do better eventually

Re: ANYBODY CATCHING??
yeah mate i used to do that 2 nights a week when i was a teenager..... i dont have the energy to stay awake literally all night anymore though so i'll probably fish 1 rod on float and another on a bolt rig til 2am then switch to 2 bolt rigs on alarms so i can at least get a little sleep between runs

Re: ANYBODY CATCHING??
Rob, we had 3 tench yesterday. I got a recipe for tench groundbait and it worked a treat first time out. Give it a bash and it might work for you.
1k Frenzied Hemp
1k Strawberry Fizz
2k of liquidised bread
Dynamite Strawberry additive
...with a little added corn, hemp and caster as freebies.
Strawberry Frenzied Corn and regulation GG Niblet Sweetcorn did the damage.

Re: ANYBODY CATCHING??
cheers andy i'll try that.... i normally keep things simpler when it comes to groundbait i.e. 1kg v.d.e. carp + 1kg white/brown crumb + half a bag of v.d.e. strawberry.

Re: ANYBODY CATCHING??
That's much the same bar the hemp really innit. The Dynamite additive is amazing stuff though. Just a liberal squirt in some water for mixing your groundbait up. Mind and add it to the water first so you get it spread evenly through your bait.
I've also heard that chopped worm, liquidised caster and predator plus is very good for tench. I think it was Russ Evans that came up with that one but there's a pattern there...IE: red. Russ reckons the chopped worm is very important because it adds amino acids to the mixture that tench respond quickly to.
Both sound good to me but I know the first worked first time. I have to thank the lads at Country Sports, paisley for giving me that recipe.
By the way, I also found that a single piece of artificial floating sweetcorn makes a very subtle, tiny float that doesn't spook fish. I'm also thinking of making some up with hooks to fish for carp.

Re: ANYBODY CATCHING??
I used to fish on a little farm pond as a lad. It was full of little Crucian Carp to maybe 4oz
but there were a few decent Tench in there. The best bait was Lobworms. I used to float fish them on a Porcupine Quill float just off the bottom. Biggest Tench I had out was only about 2lb but a fish of 4lb did come out once to another angler.. Getting a 1lb Tench out was challenge enough, given that the surface had about 80% Lily cover!

Re: ANYBODY CATCHING??
hi all was out in the rain today for a bit of course fishing on a local lake, the lake has really gone down hill in terms of smaller course ie roach, perch etc in fact no one really uses it anymore, but i have seen loads and loads of fry in there so new there must still be a decent head of fish in ther somewhere just a case of keeeping my eyes open and finding the fish!! anyway had a decent days fishing only did about 4 hours on there catching around 10 quality roach 3 chub!!! and 6 perch with the high light catching a perch that must have been well over 1lb touching 2lb
, i no it dont sound very much but the lake has really gone down hill over the years and to know its on the up and i will be the only one fishing it, is great news for me
so hopefully will be going out before the end of the week to put a proper session in.

Re: ANYBODY CATCHING??
Went out for a couple of hours this afternoon on the local canal.
Just me, 27 pence loaf of bread, my rod, landing net and rucksack with the minimal of kit. Walked about 1.5 - 2 miles looking for fish activity then flicking small pieces of bread in and, if the fish responded, attaching a small piece of bread to the size 18 hook and casting in.
Didn't have a brilliant day catch wise (8 small roach) but thoroughly enjoyed myself winding down after the week of roller coasters at Flamingoland.
Did spot a sad sight on the way back to the car. A perch of about 2lb floating upside down in the margins. Obviously been dead a while as it was almost white in colour.
Would've loved to had a tussle with that one.
