ANYBODY CATCHING??
well since no one seems to have started a thread in the coarse fishing section for this purpose let me be the first........
went out to one of my favourite bream waters on sunday with the intention of feeder fishing, after a few hours with a groundbait feeder and sweetcorn tipped with a red maggot i only had 3 roach (biggest 1 1/2lb) and 2 x 2lb ish bream to show for it, and also managed to crack a feeder off when my hook caught the bushes behind me on the cast causing a catapult effect which in turn smashed the weak link between my feeder and mainline and thusly a 25 gram feeder loaded with bait whizzed past my ear and landed 20 yards out infront of me.
i then decided to get the float rod out and fish a rodlength or so out from the bank in 7ft of water alternating between double maggot and sweetcorn on the hook over a bed of leftover groundbait from the feeder fishing. by the end of the day (around 10 hrs fishing) i only had 36 fish with the best being a bream of around 4lb and a couple more roach around 1 1/2lb.
dont get me wrong it was a good days fishing, BUT with the easterly winds of the previous week i think they were a little off the feed.... i usually catch at least 50-60 fish in a day on this venue easily.

Re: ANYBODY CATCHING??
Hi robh.
I went to a local pond last Wednesday and the forecast (a few days earlier) was for dry and bright with temps around 17'C and a light breeze. Ideal I thought.
Got there and it did indeed brighten up but not the 17'C my mate and me had dressed for and there was more than a light breeze I can tell you. In fact it was a 15mph ENE (according to metcheck.com) and that definitely took the edge off the temperature.
My fishing buddy caught 2 tiddlers and so did I but I also got a bonus carp of about 2lb as well.
I think it was the weather that had something to do with it but found out there had been a match the day before. That probably means that the fish were still full from the amount of bait that gets chucked in.

Re: ANYBODY CATCHING??
hi guys. me and MBW went to a large 8 lake venue near use, for a few hours today, yes in all that rain. got well and truly socked, but had a great days fishing. plenty of carp/tench and bream, but bet off all i had a brace of BARBEL, first ive ever had from a still water. i know some say barbel should only be put in rivers, but these fish fought like tigers and were in fantastic condition. lokking forward to the big bash next week, will let you all know how i get on. tight lines guys and girls.

Re: ANYBODY CATCHING??
I got my pole out (ahem) at a local lake tother day and was enjoying catching a few small perch when a Jack, about 6-7lb, nicked a decent one off my line right at the net. I carried on and it did it again on the next fish. I couldnt resist having a pop at him so threw a half mackerel out right under my feet and after about a minute the alarms were buzzing. All in all I had 7 jacks to 9lb in the space of an hour and a half.
The day after I went out with my lure rod and my trusty 10cm salmo sliders and hooked into what I thought was a decent double pike. It turned out to be a bloody bream foul hooked in the side. The next few casts saw me pull out another smaller bream this time hooked under the chin.
Im planning on going out with a minnow trap made from a coke bottle tomorrow to see if I cant land me a 40lb pike
Here is the bigest bream, the hole the hook made wasnt half as bad as it looks.

Re: ANYBODY CATCHING??
Off for a carping session in the morning with gavin1928.
The venue is top secret.
Supposed to be some right monsters in it that aren't tackle shy.
We'll see

Re: ANYBODY CATCHING??
I didn't get a biggie but Gav landed one but not before it snapped his rod.
I thought his line had snapped but when I saw it was his rod nearly p****d my pants laughing. After regaining my composure we managed to land it and to our surprise it weighed 6.5 Kg (roughly 13lb after net weight subtracted).
We were honestly expecting it to be a lot bigger judging by the fight it was giving and the curve in the rod looked very impressive. It took some proper tugs (if that's the right terminology) to get it to even surface and when it broke the surface, that's when Gav's rod snapped in half.
Upon closer inspection it looks like the carbon had suffered a small crack at some time and this fight was just too much for it.
I had a couple of clicks on the bite alarm, but that was it on that rod. On my little 3mt whip, I had loads of perch from the edge on worm that were a really rich colouring and fought like mad.
All in all a good day, if a little disappointing with regards the carp.
Gav has a foto of the carp so I assume he'll put that up for show.
