Nothing special really Andy. Double maggot, size 18 hook on a 12" 3lb hooklink, micro swivel, buffer bead, free running maggot feeder. Regular casts to keep the swim topped up. We just kept chucking under the trees opposite us.
Between us we caught, bream, roach, eel, ruffe, perch and of course the chub. We got 4 of those in total, by the way. Missed loads of bites due to the speed and violence of them. Gav reckons they were probably a shoal of chub that had moved in and we held them there due to all the bait going in.
When I hooked mine, at first I thought I'd missed and then it shot off downstream taking some line off the reel. My initial reaction was that a pike had probably grabbed a small roach that I'd hooked. I was well pleased when it surfaced and I saw it was the chub.

Ive caught plenty from the Trent, none of any great size but I have seen others catch them at 5 & 6lb
