Northwich Anglers Association Otter Campaign
Northwich Anglers up in Cheshire currently have a campaign against Weaver Valley Board creating an "Otter Park".
The Board proposes to create this Otter Park in the lower reaches of the River Weaver between Winsford & Northwich, this section is slow flowing and fairly canalised. It holds a good number of specimen fish including good sized Carp & Pike. There are a number of Otters present in the more natural faster flowing upper reaches of the river, along with Herons & Kingfishers that predate on the smaller silver fish such as Dace, Roach & small Chub. Anglers accept that the upstream silver fish population are barely affected by predators. The larger diversity of fish in the lower reaches, including the specimen Carp & Pike & also good sized Bream & Tench would be very much affected by unnaturally introduced numbers of Otters to create an Otter Park. Otters will target larger slower swimming fish such as Carp & Pike & Bream without any hesitation, often hauling the fish onto the bank & partly dismembering them, leaving most of the fish to rot & be scavenged by other predators etc...
Please feel free to sign the online petition, it only takes a few minutes,

Re: Northwich Anglers Association Otter Campaign
foot gun shoot mean anything to anyone considering signing this, can anglers really go against the otter and win in the general publics eyes
i wont be signing any such petition, even as an angler otters are a naturl part of our waterways and as such should be encouraged to repopulate rivers,#
im not keen on the idea of an otter park though, leave them to repopulate it naturally
