Re: Anybody catching?
Went out yesterday pm for a session with deadbaits. More recently i have been using lures more, mainly because there is far less gear to lug around. I do, to be honest, prefer bait fishing. It does seem to be a waiting game, however, like Carp or other specimen fishing. Never had a touch, mind you it is a big water & notoriously hard. If it wasn't for enjoying being out in the fresh air, away from home & people & actually me enjoying fishing, I wouln't bother to be honest, on the results I'm getting..
I have been out with lures & blanked enough times. I'm not convinced that Lure of fishing is any more productive than bait fishing.
I fished Lamprey section, Half Mackerel & also a Smelt or two. The Pike were not interested in any of them. A guy was Lure fishing nearby, he blanked too. The Pike didn't want to chase lures, either...

Re: Anybody catching?
I was out yesterday afternoon, it was blowing a gale, i managed two Jacks to 8lbs on Lamprey, my two mates blanked. i used to wobble fish more than deadbait but really enjoying dead baiting as you say Bazz it is a waiting game.

....And don't rely on your mates to tell you have your headtorch on. It's something you have to do yourself. I should know. I leave mine on all the time...
I'm actually thinking about leaving a note on my camera with something like...
1: Remove silly headwear, balaclavas, midge nets etc.
2: Put your cigarette/spliff out.
3: At least try to look presentable you messy looking tramp.
4: You know that big mountain/tree/church behind you? Other people know about it too. Expect to find them in your swim tomorrow with turds, cans, beer, fires, axes, strange dialects, no permit etc.
5: Smile you miserable looking git. It's taken you 8 months to catch this fish so at least look pleased about it....and don't look at the fish like you want to have sex with it (see 99% of carp angler pictures).
6: TURN YOUR HEADTORCH OFF.
In fact, I think this is one of the best ideas I've ever had....
....Andy....

Good going, Steve.
I had decided to go on the Saturday, given the forecast for yesterday. Did consider going to the nearest fast water on the Trent & trying for a Chub or Barbel but the howling gale & prospect of having my gear blown into the river was off-putting!

Re: Anybody catching?
Went out all day yesterday and blanked. Nearest I came was 2 'line bites'. Float quickly bobbed and then stopped, reeling in revealed no teeth marks or any other signs of being tampered with. Oh well.
Lad who came fishing with me (not a piker) was using worm to fish with and caught a 4-5lb pike.
He $h1t himself and asked me to unhook it, which I duly did and returned it to the water a few pegs further up.

Re: Anybody catching?
I actually have to go pike fishing again in order to catch some pike. It'll come soon. Once everything else has stopped biting, shoaled up and become far to difficult to locate, I'll get on the case.

Re: Anybody catching?
well, went fishing to Oaklands yesterday and blanked. lost a very good fish though. i had a drop back, swinger just went straight down. picked up rod, wound till i could feel it then struck...fish on yeah. had it for about 10 seconds, it came to the top, rolled and then was gone
. looked closer to 20lb than 15lb thats all im saying. nice place though, easy to find and no walking as long as you dont mind parking between caravans
. i will be going back for sure

Re: Anybody catching?
I've fished there a few times
It is a great place with some nice pike and a good head of carp !!
And Steve and Claire the owners really look after the place and the fish
And they make you feel welcome too
Well they always have with us lads off fishing & hunting site
I will be going back in the near future

Re: Anybody catching?
fished last week and had 3 nice fish, the 2 pictured and my profile pic, all taken on drifted smelt deadbaits, unfotunatly i had no scales, so guesses of around 9lb-15lb and my brother in law had 2 around 5-6lb, will be going again this weekend for sure
