mileage markers

Post  noz on Tue Aug 04, 2009 7:08 pm

Has anyone noticed the new(ish)mileage markers which seem to be along every motorway. The thing which intrigues me is that they indicate distance in KILOMETRES!! The other thing is that as they are every half kilometre apart, how much did these cost?? Also, what good are they to us?

Yes mate, sounds like a European community gimmick of some sort, they are metric obsessed. All sorts of theories going around..traffic monitoring, stealth speed camera monitoring, dunno what highways agency or whoever are up to...I will ask an archery friend, John Welch, he is a Highways Agency Patrolman (roadrunner Laughing )

I noticed those kilometerage markers too.

What I couldn't work out was had they just appeared or had they been there for ages and I had been driving with my eyes shut.

The thing that puzzles me is this: On the M1 the numbers in Yorkshire are in the range of 200k - 300k ish which follows that zero is at the start of the M1 in London. Why then are the numbers on the M18, which starts near Rotherham, also in the 200k plus range?

I wonder what is the purpose of them?
