Possible Threat

Post  Andy Macfarlane on Tue Jul 21, 2009 3:32 pm

I'm just letting everyone know that there may be a possible virus threat doing the rounds, which may have been forwarded to people on my address book.

It's headed "Rob Buy - I Love Shopping"

Now, I didn't send anything. I haven't been using my computer for looking at dodgy sites and nobody else has access to my computer in the house.

I've done all possible updates, virus checks, firewall checks, task manager checks....everything and nothing.

It's been looked at by people who know more than I do and they can't make head nor tail of it but they have said just be cautious anyway, just in case it's something nasty.

It might be something, it might be nothing. Just keep an eye out for it.

Ta!.....Andy

Re: Possible Threat

Funnily enough, I have just deleted an email that was from supposedly from you but wasn't addressed to me. scratch

I immediately became suspicious about it and deleted the offending email.

I have been seeing a lot of suspicious emails just lately that aren't even addressed to me and go along the lines of " from: John Doe subject: funny " or countless variations of that theme. There is always just a link there and no actual content to the email, ie no wording or pictures etc...

Our lass has twice telephoned her bank about suspicious emails this past week. They claim that her account has been fraudulently accessed and has been put on hold. It tells her to click on the link to confirm her account details.

She may be blond, but she aint thick.

Just last week I recieved an email claiming to be from Paypal saying my account had suspicious activity and to click on the link to confirm account details. I immediately forwarded it to them (spoof@paypal.com) and then received confirmation from them that it was in fact a phishing attempt.

To all those that have a Paypal account, be extra vigilant as the email was from PaypaI.com Note the capital I instead of a lowercase L. At first glance they can appear to be the same.

In the immortal words of NYPD Blue: "Be careful out there"

Post him a reply, telling him to "Hollyhocks" or a word that sounds a bit like that, and then add him to your spam blocked address setting in e-mail preferences Very Happy Twisted Evil
