Re: airguns wanted
Same here. I'm not looking for an Olympics grade air-rifle. I just need a wee pistol for dispatching with grey squirrels we catch outside in a cage. They run amok but they do get caught very often and I'd dispatch with them through the cage.
I just don't have the heart to bop them on the head. Plus that means getting them out of the cage first, which would be like grabbing a conger eel, dipped in Teflon, with oily hands

You would want good gloves on to handle one
They have good teeth & attitude to match! Its a Rat with a bushy tail. Do anything you can to protect the indigenous Red Squirrel, Scotland is its last haven in Great Britain. Maybe a few in Cumbria & a few at Formby Point in Merseyside
An air pistol is probably the most humane way of dealing with a caged Grey.

Re: airguns wanted
I despatched a rat the other day in our back garden with a very lucky aim of the broom.
This stunned it long enough for me to finish it off with said broom in one swift movement.
Not nice to do and I had to fight the dog off to get it bagged up ready to put in the wheely bin but it had to be done.
Everybody I talk to about rats says the same thing - since we went onto fortnightly bin collections rats have had a boom in population due to rubbish lying around for so long and providing them with a food source.
All my neighbours complain about the little blighters. Six out of seven of my immediate neighbours also have dogs so putting poison down is risky because of the possibility of one of them biting or eating a poisoned rat or even eating the poison itself.
Get an air rifle or pistol and the armed police would probably come knocking

I suppose I could just put the cage in a bin bag and seal it up tight until the wee turd suffocates.

I think there are a few red squirrels on the Isle of Wight too Bazz, but your right, they are few and far between.
