Re: daiwa emcast big pit reels
I have had shimano baitrunners for 17 years with my only problem being the bail arms not clicking over properly. They have never been serviced, line lay is superb, baitrunner works perfectly and unlike the Daiwa bite n run the baitrunner lever is the "right" way round. Can't fault them.
Blimey, the Emcasts must be good to beat that.

I quite agree Andy. The Shimano's have always been the market leaders for Carp, general course...even Match reels in recent years. I used to have two 4500's, the Japanese ones & they were special. The current ones are functionally fine but don't seem as smooth & well built as the earlier Japan ones..
The Okuma ones get very good reviews, the Fox Straros get slated (several dealers tell me the Stratos IS made by Okuma
).
I have a French made Mitchell 300, its quality & sadly no longer made..even if it is retro. I am a BIG fan of the earlier Mitchell reels, Mitchell Match was a world beater & now highly collectable

Re: daiwa emcast big pit reels
i have used shimano baitrunners since i started pike/carp fishing 15 years ago (same pair of 3500's) and one is still in perfect working order..... the anti reverse is totally knackered on the other one so i recently replaced it with a daiwa BRI-AB 5000. the daiwa is good but i have noticed alot of problems with line twist compared to the shimano's.
also 5 years ago i managed to get a shimano 3500 fg for £25.00 from the local cash converters in brand new condition (fully boxed, spare spool AND no sign whatsoever that it had actually been used..... there wasnt even line on either of the spools!!!) its the best reel i have ever used for float/feeder fishing and is still as smooth 5 years down the line as it was when i first got it

i dont use the baitrunner, so no need for a lever any way round

Tell you what, I have bought an ABU Multiplier very recently. Compared it to the Daiwa equivalent, the Daiwa doesn't come anywhere near it..

i had no idea there was any difference, but i can tell you that the abu 7000 i use is around 20 years old (a hand-me-down from my dad) and it still runs perfectly with a little bit of tlc at the end of each season.
