Re: Anybody Catching???
Just thought I'd put pic of my largest of the session, seeing as though Gav forgot

Not a shadow on his but a cracking fight from it. Caught it on a small roach that was wounded from the perch attacks and it came floating into the edge so I scooped it up with my landing net. Took off the fake worm I had on and lip hooked the roach. As soon as it hit bottom (in about 2 ft of water) there was a couple of taps and then all hell broke loose!

Gavin's latest catch, caught on an Ondex number 4 (I think).
Gave a good account of itself and fought strongly all the way in

Went to the Range in southport and bought some new lures, "FULL REPORT HERE" They are now selling them at £1:50 each so they are cheap as chips, I have had them before and i changed the hooks and hooklinks, But these are value for money,

Re: Anybody Catching???
I love minnowbaits Paddy.
Try filing the vane off a couple and work them with quick, short, stabs and a very slow retrieve. You're not looking for a pattern in the lure action. It should be all over the place. This way, that way, up, down...all over.
This was one of the first bits of advice I was given when I took up lure fishing for pike and it's done me very well. If the lure is too buoyant, try wrapping a little wire round the front treble shank.
I've done this to Rapalas and cheapo lures, including Fladens. I think it's the darting, slim profile the pike like.

There is but pike vary considerably from one water to another.
weight = length x girth x girth ÷ 800
(W = L x G2 ÷ 800)
It's not a massive fish at 28 inches but if you were happy, that's what matters. Get some scales and a good sling.

Thanks Andy, good info...
It's a river Pike and my PB, just wondered if it hit the 10 mark! i've a feeling there are bigger in the reach, as all the evidence i see stacks up, just feel privileged right now

Re: Anybody Catching???
very chunky fish - especially for the river, they generally are slimmer in the moving water.

Re: Anybody Catching???
Managed to get out on Christmas eve, whilst staying with the family in Cornwall, for few hours on a local reservoir. Got there at first light and was relieved to see about 1 third of the lake not frozen, but it was really cold my line was freezing in the rod rings and the margins were freezing in front of my eyes! Had one fish which I was really pleased with, a perch which went 2lb 4oz it took a 15cm daiwa shad rigged on a 5/0 jig head! No pike but still it was good to get out.
