Kebab Rigs - Hook Size
Hi
Thinking of trying a kebab rig at some point and was wondering what is the best type of hook to use: Treble or Single?
What are peoples thoughts on this and what size of hook would they recommend for the treble and the single?
Cheers

From everything I've seen and read they're best on a single.

just dont think they would catch you any more fish than normal deadbaiting method as in the use of useing trebles on a natruel dead better hook ups than a single by far . went through a spell of useing singles in the past missed a lot of runs i like to strike very early when using trebles just think there is a better chance of a hook up even with bait side on in its jaws and being swallowed head first....... not advising anybody not to try it ....i did and i wasnt happy with it.......give it go and see what works for you

Fair enough, I suppose it's just a case of trial and error at the end of the day. What's good for some aint necessarily good for others

Re: Kebab Rigs - Hook Size
I for one have always used single hooks for my pike fishing. Currently using size 4 Drennan Continental Boilie hooks. Very few missed runs over the years. It may be that I'm very lucky with my hooking rate or that some other factor comes into play. I am an advocate of early striking so I assume I hook the baits in a proper way. This season I'm continuing my trials with the 'tagged' method as last season was a disaster for me what with the health problems.
As far as I know, the kebab rig was 'invented' with single hooks in mind but I see no reason why it can't be used with a treble. Go with what you feel comfortable with.
It really is 'each to their own', but I only use trebles on lures and spinners. My theory being that they were designed with trebles in mind and if I were to change them for singles it may upset the balance and/or action.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Basically it's the same principle as a hair rig for carp but instead of a boilie you have a selection of deadbait pieces strung together like a kebab, hence the name. Obviously the length of the tail is much longer than that on a hair rig!

Re: Kebab Rigs - Hook Size
Paddy try the kebab rig by all means but a nice deadbait on a snap tackle coupled with an early strike is tried and trusted, Pike don't really get pressured in the same way as carp so I don't thing theres a need to ring the changes in this way, basicly if a pike is caught a lot it normally ends up dead quicker, so they don't get mega wary. Just my opinion Paddy.
