partridge double hooks
i'm considering trying some of these hooks as an alternative to trebles on my deadbait rigs, has anyone tried them and if so can you tell me if they're as effective as a treble when hooking?

Re: partridge double hooks
hi rob.
I have used these quite a bit an i actually prefer them over trebles. The hook stands proud of the bait better and they are much easier to remove from fish and landing nets.

Like the look of these, may give them a try
I've noticed the partridge ones are barbed.
Do you crush the barbs or do you find with only having one 'hooking' hook you feel there is no need?

Re: partridge double hooks
I like the idea of these, but i always wonder if there is a chance that the hook falls / lays flat against the deadbait on the cast or strike, resulting in a lost fish.
Is there a way of making sure this doesn't happen or am i just talking rubbish and being paraniod? lol

think i'll leave the barbs in place.... i dont like barbless hooks much, you lose too many fish.
if i find that they're causing more harm than good then of course i will crush the barbs.

Re: partridge double hooks
think your just being paranoid tootall. once the fish picks your bait up and you strike, the force of the strike will straighten the hooks if they are laid flat.

Fair point mate. I can see that happening - I guess its a confidence thing. Interested to see how your tests work out Rob.

Re: partridge double hooks
I have tried this in the past with great results, So good was the catch rate i started taking the trebles of the Meps spinners and i replaced them with an O ring an a Double hook, And the Perch that used to bump the hook and swim off, I was catching loads that i would normaly miss, When hooking the dead bait with one Double hook, Just take a match stick, Put the hooks into the flesh on the back of the bait, Then push the stem over, Now the hooks should look like they are coming up and facing the tail of the bait, Now get the Trace wire and a boily hook, Just about an inch from the back from the end of the tail, push the boily hook through, Now hook the Trace wire on and pull it through jently, Place a match stick behind the wire and release the boily hook, The bait is now on, Cast in as normal and wait for the run,
Re: partridge double hooks

These new ones don't look up to the quality of the old ones that i have used in the past. I'm still waiting to have a run on one this season. The old ones were good though so I have confidence using them.

Re: partridge double hooks
I have every confidence in double hooksand have been using them this season. I used them last Saturday to take three pike. Unhooking is far easier than with trebles. Anyone else using them?

Re: partridge double hooks
Never tried the Partridge jobs but used the Drennan Specialist Doubles a few times, in place of my upper treble, mainly when using lamprey, eel or wee baits like sprat.
Still used the barbed treble though on the end though. Dunno if I'd be all that confident catching pike with little more than a glorified single 6-4 (the rest is in the bait mind). That's a lot of mouth to set a wee hook in.
