Insomniac Joke

Post  tootall on Sun Oct 24, 2010 2:35 am

What's the best thing about being an insomniac? (apart from always being first on the riverbank!)...

...Only 10 sleeps 'til Christmas lol...

I've been an insomniac since I was 15, which is odd cos I used to sleep about 16 hours a day, given the option. My record is 5 days on the trot, without a wink but oddly, I don't seem to lose my senses or go barking mad. I just lose weight if I don't eat during my awake periods. I can eat temazepam/moggies like sweets too so now I don't even bother and just get on with it and do summit to waste my time, like write a fishing article or something.

Sleep when I'm having a sustained period consists of lots of little mini-naps that feel I've blinked and very often I might miss a half hour TV or something and my cuppa has gone cold. That's about the only indicator that any time has elapsed and I reckon these sleeps only occur because I'm sitting still for a while. I also almost never yawn or get sleepy. I tend to switch off like a lightbulb when I do sleep. I can go from seemingly very active to completely unconscious within 2 minutes and I suspect it's my brain shutting me down out of necessity.

It comes and goes and there isn't a reason for it that I've managed to pin down. Who knows why or how. Doesn't seem to affect me detrimentally either as far as I can tell.

It's just annoying. That's all.

God i was like that as a child, But now when i go to sleep i can sleep for 10 hrs, But i am on a lot of meds for heart and so on, But i dont go to sleep easy like you andy, You said your brain switches off to give you rest eventualy, I just tend to have to wait till the sleep comes to me, Then you can drop a bomb by me and i wont even twitch haha

Once in a blue moon I will sleep for like 14 hours and when I'm not having a spell I can actually sleep for about 10 hours (probably 8 would do but then I can doze lightly for another 2 if I don't have to get up. Then just as quickly as sleep comes...pitang!...no sleep for you my lad. Strange that I'm sensitive to light as well. That would seem to be a reason but I'm having a no sleep period just now and it's basically Winter so that makes no sense.

Two things that's even stranger. I can almost always fall asleep sitting up in the passenger side of a moving vehicle or when I'm outside. Seriously, point me in the direction of my unhooking mat and I'll find a way to fall asleep on it in less than half an hour. What's that all about?...no I'm not a dog before anyone says.

Well that's an answer (a good one though cos that's what my doc suggested) but I don't sleep much elsewhere. Just cars and unhooking mats.

I seem to finding a pattern again. Been grabbing an extra half hour a day for the last few days. Hopefully I'll get the full 7-8 hours by next week.

I do enjoy a kip.
