Brand Name needed
Hi all,
Can anyone tell me a brand that begins with C I think, that makes a soft steel braid type stuff? I used it to make make some traces sometime ago and I cannot find the spool, or remember the name.
If I remember correctly it comes in a purple/pinky small spool of about 25m
Thanks
Si

Re: Brand Name needed
caliber wonder wire it went off the market for a few years i think it was 2002
i bought a job lot of 15lb and still now and again use it for my zander fishing
i know that in 2007 it did get brought back if i remember the blokes name is steve moore who does it you,ll have to look for the website to get it .
it never really has done as well as the first time , it is a brilliant wire and is by far still head and shoulders above other wires of the same ilk .
however ET,s 49 strand is good

Have you seen the price of that stuff?
At the sites I've looked it up at, it works out around a tenner for every 5m on average. GULP!
In your original post you mention a 25m spool. That would cost £50. A bit excessive I think. Unless it far outlasts 'normal' trace but even so, not something I'll be buying.

I like the stuff, nice and subtle and 5m will make up about 7 traces, which is about £1.40 a trace. Not so bad really.

Well yeah, when you break it down per trace it aint too bad.
How does it stand up to twists, kinks etc?

It doesn't kink as its braid, for twisting on trebles I find it great, but of course as its braid, you can just use knots.
Also as it doesn't kink, should you make up a trace and the trebles be too far apart, then you simply unwind the treble and move it, then re-wrap it further down/up the braid leaving no kinks.
Im not an overly active pike angler (unfortunately) and no where near an expert, so cant speak for it from a safety point of view, but it was recommended to me by a Pike Guide on Esthwaite in the lakes who seems to swear by it.

just seen this please please dont use this stuff for static baits it isnt proper wire the strength is from the braid core
it does have a stainless weave on the outside to help prevent toothy fish biting through it but the weave is easily opened
see if you can pass a pin through the wire mesh well then a pike tooth can get into it as well
supatress is ideal as a light lure leader where a small number of contacts with toothy preds like pike may be tolerated, but its best use is for pike fly fishing although in both instances id sooner use the caliber stuff listed above.
esthwaite guides are predominantly trout anglers and they do the pike stuff as a bit of an extra in winter hence the supatress idea from them
