Carp & Tench Rigs - How best to fish Silty & Weedy bottoms

Post  raf1870 on Tue Nov 09, 2010 9:32 pm

Hi

Looking for some advice from any carp and tench anglers out there.

I have never fished for carp or tench before but have found a canal basin that has both tench and carp in it.

However, the area where the fish are in is very weedy and has that black silty mud bottom.

This I found out on Sunday when dead bating for pike and ledgering for roach and perch.

The weed and mud was just clumped around swimfeeders, weights, bait and hooks when I retreived my gear.

This finally brings me to my question.

How is it best to fish in such conditions. What rigs will allow me to present bait so that I can try and negate these conditions to my benefit?

Even the names of some rigs will be a good starting point and then I can reserch them online.

Cheers

check out the chod rig for silty bottoms. for heavy weed i would use a lrage pva bag with my rig and ook etc included inside it. that way you can cast it right into weed and it has the effect of flattening it down.

when i get more time i will post up some links to useful rigs etc...at work right now.

oh and don't forget the trusty old lift method on the float. Smile

It's a paternoster mate. Trust carpers to think of a new name for an old idea. Chod rig indeed.

It is indeed an old rig that has been slightly modified and given another name by the carping fraternity.

Basically it's a helicopter/paternoster rig but with a very short stiff hooklink. As the rig is tied, a curve is set into the hooklink which makes it difficult for carp to eject.
