I've got a Fox Warrior Z 2.75lb TC.

Technically it's a carp rod but it has a through action so ideal for the small venues you (and I) fish and will absorb the lunges of an angry predator close in.

I just need to get a fish on it but don't tell anybody (shhh...) Embarassed

May as well mate. I've got more carp rods than pike rods. In fact, I have one pike rod and 5 carp rods and I was never a carper.

Got 2 Daiwa Vulcan X 2.25lb TC carp rods, which are superb for short range piking, wobbling and float work. Caught loads of pike on them...loads...only 'problem' is I'm limited with the size of bait/weight I can use. Need a polish and the whipping is a little faded but lovely rods all the same. Cost me 60 quid each.

Also got a Fox Warrior 3lb TC Carp rod. Probably the best rod I've used. Kinds wish I had gone for 3 now. Cost me 45 quid.

Got a Wychwood Rogue 4lb TC Spod Rod. I use that for launching out smallish baits with a 5-6oz lead. Lovely actually with a double on surprisingly enough. Excellent tool for the job. Cost me 40 quid.

The one and only out and pike rod I have is a Wychwood Rogue Power Pike 3.5lb TC for midrange work with any size of bait. It's lovely and serves the purpose well. Only bought it because I asked Mark Houghton and he gave me the recommendation. Can pick them up new for about 40 quid.

If your carp rods serve the purpose well enough, I see little or no reason to go for out and out pike rods. Besides, you know your rods already, what they're capable of and what's required to set hooks etc. at whatever distance.

i use shimano technium's in 2.5lb test curve for short range work used to be my carp rods, were quite expensive at the time i bought them dont think they sell em anymore, for long range work i use fox warrior's deadbait rods in 3lb test curve (i think) think there around 60-65 pound havent got bad thing to say about them, nice rods for the price .

the greys prowla pike rods to be honest havent heard anything good about them, a few ppl i no reckon there the worst rods they've ever owned, they have all said the same thing, a couple of casts and the tip has snapped off, if it was only one then id say it was just a faulty rod but to happen to couple of ppl, got to be more to it, one of them even got it replaced only for it to happen again. wouldnt recomend them,

anyone else had/heard of any problems with the greys PIKE RODS ?

I've had a Greys prowla 12ft 3lb for exactly 12 months and I can't say a bad word about it. I may have been lucky but I rate it as the best rod I've owned, so much so that I just purchased another 11ft 2.25lb model for my christmas.

Also have the Fox warrior z carp rod but it's a tad slim for me.

What weight is the pike in your picture Newie? Your signature suggests you haven't had a 20 yet or did you meet your 2010 target?

The 19.5 should be heading for 20+ now mate. It's a known fish (to you at least) but who cares?? I just asked because the fish in your picture looked pretty substantial.

One thing I would do come March-ish till July-ish, is find a productive swim and bang all 3 rods into it. As soon as you've had one fish out, bang the rod back in the exact same spot. Most of my bumper hauls have all come from an area about 20 feet X 20 feet. Just spread the rods a bit so you have room to avoid crossed lines etc. For some reason the weights generally start low and gradually increase. Why so many large females gather in the same spots, I don't know but it's happened for too many times, on too many waters for it to be a random event.
