Oldie But A Goodie...leger stems
I thought seeing as some of you are new and there's not a lot of getting out at the moment, you might want to try these fellers out. I use them all the time pike fishing and they're the mutt's nuts.
Anyone use buoyant leger stems? Even better still when the weed starts to get thicker. The Fox ones don't seem to be up to much. The korda ones seem to be slightly better but I make my own...totally bomproof for whacking big leads and whole baits with pop-ups into weed or silt.
1: John Roberts Rig Tubing
2: Self-tapping curtain rings
3: Buoyancy aids...could be fox poppers, corks...add to suit your applications
4: Green acrylic
5: Paperclip for rotten bottom type affair
6: Done

Yes the booms must be stiff to avoid tangles amongst the weed etc
I have some i use that are 6", 10" and 14" depending on the weed depth

I don't reinforce the stems or you have something that snags. Then the paperclip has been defeated. They're stiff enough but not so stiff that you can't flex it out of a snag if it gets locked up.
Besides, the air inside the tube adds to the buoyancy. Filling the tube with a rod or filler or something would make in heavier.
I just cut the rig tubing in half but you could make them shorter, which would increase the rigidity.

I have made these in the past but used to use 4Lb line to make the rotten bottom, But the paper clip will be getting some stick from now on, Thanks Andy, Oh i meant to add that they dont want to be to short like Andy said the shorter you make the the more rigid they get, This would defeet the object of the excersize, They really do need to be flaxable,
Re: Oldie But A Goodie...leger stems
Anyone know where to purchase self tapping curtain rings or do you mean screw eyes?

Have you got a B&Q near you ? they do them

Re: Oldie But A Goodie...leger stems
Checked B&Q adie they have never heard of them!!!
They just looked at me with a blank expression.
Screw eyes were the best they could offer me but dont want to use them as the curtain rings will be smoother running.
