15lb+ is the way to go, just make sure to use a wire trace, as for the trebles, a size 4 is a big hook for trebles, maybe a size 6 is better.

line should be ok, never used berkley line, but seems to have a good reputation,
but as stated, use a wire trace,
as for trebels, ever considered using #8's for the smaller baits,

MrMakk, what mono-line use? If is not a secret
Yes, I know mates, size #6 is more good than #4. But if I put one 8-10cm crucian in? Its ok size #6?

I use 18lb mono, the water I fish has some real big momma's so it's justified as far as I'm concerned.
Got smashed up on 15lb once, I saw the fish before it bolted and broke me, was easy late 20's, maybe even mid 30, hard to say when they in the water, was deffo bigger than my pb (23lb 8oz).
EDIT: Was really strange with this fish, it seemed it didn't know what was happening and I thought I had it beat, it saw me when I had it almost landed then went ape and bolted off.....broke my 15lb mainline.

Wow
Very nice Mike, maybe it was a good but unhappy drill I like all pikes, from any size. For me, PIKE, is FRESHWATERS LADY
Big Game GOLD tone, its ok for pike? I want to try it, if it is ok. I use now F1 (Ultima) and Fox Soft Steel Camo.
P.S. You know some, about zander fishing methods?

What's the theory then? Rod too stiff so the line took the flak? Was 2 3/4 rod so I don't think that's the case, I can't dimsmiss the line may of been dammaged at the point of the break, deffinately possible. I think it may be more human error in not realising what I had on and not having my clutch set accordingly, crappy mistake to make, but I upped my line just incase for the future.

More likely the clutch being too tight than the rod.

Exactly what I think it was, Andy. A crappy mistake on my part, I roamed the banks of the venue for weeks expecting to find a big dead pike but it never happened (had I found her I would of been extremely upset), so I assume she survived, and I really hope so as I want a re-match!
I've beaten myself up about it a fair bit as it really was a fine specimen that I could of killed through a silly mistake.

Fingers crossed that she's ok and that's why she hasn't been found belly up.
Would be great to hear you recaught her and removed your trace/line etc.. if she still has it attached that is. Somebody else may have caught her and done just that

I use 18lb line and size 4 trebles. I could show you a size 4 that looks like it was set about with a pair of pliers by a 22 lber. After that I moved onto VMC size 4s and wouldn't go smaller for that reason. Maybe Scottish pike fight harder though....
