Decent Lightish Lure Rod
Anyone got any thoughts or experience on a good quality lure rod to buy, for light to medium work (river and lake , no ressies) , also a decent quality reel to go with it- any info would be great.

Your best bet is to chat with local lure anglers who know what they are doing, or local tackle shops , most are more interested in you going back for more info and buying more gear. so a good one will not rip you off.

Have a look at the shimano vengance spin series, i have a 8ft 14-40grm version, very nice and feels brilliant, combined with a simano Alivio 4000RB loaded with 50lb braid,
the downside to all this is that i haven't even managed to get out and catch a fish with the gear.

the Alivio spin rod are quiet heavy, to my mind, (each to their own)
whats yer budget? - (could narrow down the target)

Re: Decent Lightish Lure Rod
looking at around £50 for the rod , just got a nice little okuma reel to pair it with so that side is sorted.

All i can say, is a shimano Vengeance spin, 8ft 14-40g cast,
pick em up for around £30
other than that a drennan E-sox 9ft spinflex is at the height of you budget £50.
failing that, take a trip toy your local tackle dealer,
pick em up for around £30

"buy the best gear you can afford"
but it's true, if you skimp on an item you will skimp on your fishing.
budgets are tight for everyone but if you buy the best it should last you a lifetime.

I like the Ryobi John Wilson 7' lure rod It can be picked up for a tenner in some tackle shops. It is a great roving rod even for boat use. Can be used with a multiplier or fixed spool reel.

Re: Decent Lightish Lure Rod
thanks for all the feedback guys, i went down to chapmans in hull and after picking a few up and getting a feel i bought a savage gear mp pro trigger - 9 ft 20/60 g casting range.
got it for £50 - close one between this and the agitator which just felt a bit too lightweight because the river i fish weeds up badly in summer and the extra power in the savage gear rod will help with getting the fish through.
