Brave Rabbit or Coward Stoat?

Post  Steve French on Mon Jan 24, 2011 1:01 pm

I was checking my lake this morning for Winter casualities, when something moved near to my log cabins, it was a Stoat in winter dress, pure white, the first Ermine I have seen, I was about 20 yards from him, I stood stock still holding my breath, watching him on the hunt, he went under one of the cabins which are home to the many Rabbits that run about our field, then sudenly out he ran with a Rabbit CHASING HIM, I always thought it was the other way around! I think that the only explanaition is, a mothers love, maybe she has a nest of young and was prepared to put her life on the line, whatever it was, it was an amazing site.

I was out yesterday. My fishing partner noticed something move in the reeds and run up along the hedge. He was pretty sure it was a mink. 10 mins later we hear the squeal of a rabbit. 10mins after this he saw him drag the rabbit to the waters edge and hide it in his nest/house/lodge/bolthole (whatever it's called)

We managed to get a photo of him he wasnt too shy and came very close whilst under the cover of the hedge
