Unusual ways you caught a pike

Post  Andy Webster on Sun Feb 27, 2011 2:02 pm

tell us the more unusual methods used to catch pike. Either by design or accident.

I tried a float ledgered Big S lure on a river last week and a jack snaffled it. The action was very enticing with the constant change to the pace of the water causing the lure to rise and fall.

Last summer I had a terrible run of blanks, I decided to take the lad down the local cut to get him interested in angling, we'd fished for around an hour on pinkies and caught a good mixed bag of skimmers & small perch, I decide to change bait to corn, as I started reeling in to change bait the line strained, there was no movement on the rod and it just felt like I'd hooked a plastic Asda bag, as the bag surfaced it came a live but only slightly and low n behold it was a jack of about 3Lb, it had taken two pinkies on a sixe 18 hook, unbelievable, I'd been out for weeks running up to this and had nothing, I still felt I had'nt broke the blank though coz I had'nt gone out to target pike, but they all count.....

That's some proper fishing Andy. Bit of innovative thought paid off. I take my hat off to you for having the balls to try it.
