Had a golden day today on a local drain system which I haven't fished in 20 years, a few missed takes but still managed to get three to the bank. All taken on a small Spro BBZ.

The biggest of the day was this one of 13lb 4oz, snapped at the lure twice, 2nd time charging upstream and spitting the lure, finally on the third cast I actually watched the fish mouth the plastic before tightening into it, great sport. Very Happy

all on an old fave, the Spro BBZ

I decided to have a trip out this morning, in the foggy conditions, to a local stretch of river i've been meaning to try. Tactics involved a simple ledger rig with smelt as bait, starting near the middle of the river and just regurlarly twitching the bait back up the shelf until i had a run. Thats the theory....i've blanked the last few times i've been out. After twitching it back a few rod lengths i got a nice steady take, which i immediately hit.

Anyway, finally got my pike campaign for the winter up and running with this 7 1/2lber, not a biggie but a welcome fish.

managed a session on my local canal today, and i'm gutted Sad Sad Sad Sad lost a fish at the net (only run of the day) and it was HUGE Question Question Question . i had a 19lb fish a couple of weeks ago, and when i saw that in the water i thought "thats a big fish, may go 20lb" but when i saw this thing today i thought "ffs thats huge" my pb is 22.10 and this fish would have smashed that Sad Sad Sad i would have put it in the 25-28lb range. i got it within 2yds of the net, i was down on one knee starting to think who was i going to get to do the photos, when for no good reason the hooks just seamed to fall out NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. i saw the fish right its self flair its gills a couple of times before slowly swimming of in the direction i had just hooked it from. i just knelt there staring at it as it swam of feeling sick. no idea why the hooks came adrift suppose it just wasnt ment to be, but i know one thing I'LL BE BACK Laughing Laughing Laughing

M.B.A gutted for you mate, its a proper sickner loosing a big fish at the net Sad I have just got back from the mighty Shannon, its a big river, with some monsters lurking, but alas non showed up over the week. The guys I was with have fished these waters for years and it was my third visit, I never blanked, some guys did. The funny thing was that all of the fish were about the same size which was about the 10lbs mark. Now dont get me wrong these fish were all caught at about 25ft depth, they fought like fish twice their size so averaging two a day was slow but the surroundings were amazing with an abundance of flocks of migrant birds. The highlight of the visit was watching a Peregrine catch a Teal about 5 yards from our boat. this first pic is the typical start to the day, usually on the river by 7.00 am, the second pic is a typical Pike caught, and the third is the smallest of the 16 fish.
The biggest fish caught was 19lbs, on a remote Lough and my mate had blanked for three days before he got it. Now must get the gear ready hoping to get out sometime this week and do it all again Very Happy

Good fishing Paddy, I know what you mean, what goes around comes around, my fishing buddy Sithee was having a tough time catching, he blanked a number of times, we were out for a short session yesterday and he had a 6lber and a 10lbs 9oz, me I coped with a jack, just a little bigger than the dead Roach that tempted it Very Happy

Sithees 10lb 9oz pike
