I'm gonna be moving pretty soon

Post  Lefty on Thu Oct 13, 2011 11:45 pm

Went to look at a council house today and we're gonna have it.

What's so special about that then? I hear you say.

Well, it's at Cadeby and about a mile away from the house is the river Don and a pond. A little further away is the river Dearne.

Now correct me if I'm wrong (if you know of course) but I think the Dearne is free fishing.

From what I can gather the stretch of Don is controlled by some Rotherham angling association (?) and I don't know about the pond.

Can anybody shed some light?

Well well, it's a small world innit? lol!

Would that be the one where virtually the whole of the back garden is a vegetable patch Question

A lot of the river Dearne is free fishing but about the last mile of river before it runs into the Don is run by Denaby angling club but you can get day tickets but to be honest i would just fish the free bit as its just as good Wink
Theres a few nice barbel and lots of good chub to around 5lb and a good head of silvers as well Very Happy also one or two pike but they are few and far between !
If the pond you are on about is the one i think it is its a nature reserve and you can't fish it But theres the ones at Barnburgh thats got some nice fish in them on day ticket !
I think you are right about the Don being run by Rotherham angling club ( not 100 % on that ) but you can also get day tickets for there as well Wink

Here's where I mean Adie.

The village is at the top, the Don is the blue line, the pond is within the red ring (just below the quarry) and the bright green line is the viaduct.

Hope this helps Very Happy

I was gonna rent a new property, it was an old run down barn, and seriosuly this thing was like from WW2, totaly run down my missus didnt like it and it had a coin meter for the electricity/heating. the reason I went for it was because the landlord was gonna give me free slamon fishing for a full season ..lol. We where too late in getting it though so she was relieved ( i wasnt ) lol

Had a look from the viaduct on Sunday - can't see any signs of fencing around the pond.

There's a sign at the top of the hill saying to be careful carrying your fishing rods to the fishery due to overhead cables. The only cables I can see are near the pond. They do cross the river though.

Going to take a proper look at it as soon as I get a chance. Still got plenty to do in the house. Rolling Eyes

Took the dog for a walk yesterday down to the river and to check out that pond.

At my walking pace (fairly brisk compared to some) it took us 30 mins to get to the river as it runs under the viaduct. There's some nice looking pegs down there. The river is a fairly slow pace, should make a good spot for legering maggots/worms or bread Smile

There is no fencing around the pond tongue

There is however very soft boggy ground with LOTS of reed beds around it though. Didn't take a proper look or go too close because of all the birds that were there. (Max isn't keen on other animals no matter how big or small)

To be honest, I don't think it will be fishable because of the soft boggy ground. Wouldn't like to get that sinking feeling whilst being in the middle of nowhere Crying or Very sad

Personal safety will always take a higher priority to trying to catch a fish.
