Angling Trust - In it or Bin it?
On the 5th January the Angling Trust will be formed from several existing representative bodies (ACA, FACT, NAFAC, NFA, NFSA, SAA) with aim of providing a fully united angling organisation, that will promote and develop the sport in a way that all anglers of all disciplines may benefit.
The questions I am asking are
1. Will you support the Angling Trust by joining it?
2. What existing organisations are you a member of?

It won't work. Watch for the in-fighting and fireworks. Mark my words. Individual clubs can't even run their own affairs without in-fighting, disputes, falling out, members leaving in droves and so on, so how is a conglomeration of these clubs going to get along without any fighting or disputes? It won't happen. Mark my words.

This is what tends to happen with club's and organisations, the larger they are the worse it is. You tend to end up with rival organisations all competing for peoples support and membership. We will have to see...

I for one will pay to join the new angling trust, and would urge all fellow anglers to join.
the formation as been long over due and will lead to unity in our great sport, running almost everything under one umbrella,
angling is under atack from several quarters ( ask your self why there is a big decline in the numbers of pike in the river torne ?) the only chance we have of sorting the serious issues out in angling is to have a strong voice, especially in parliament, the only way for that to happen is to have one big organisation, like the angling trust.
tight lines, Stephen

ahh but the problem therin lies with the different branches of the sport requiring there own species to be put above all else for me the only species that should be a priority would be predators, once you get predators established and looked after every other species will be looked after as a consequence of thisstephen abbott wrote:I for one will pay to join the new angling trust, and would urge all fellow anglers to join.

i agree the only thing that can manage a fishery and provide first class coarse fishing are pike, thats why we need an angling body like the angling trust to fetch this to the fore. as the law stands at the moment if you have a rod licence you can kill and remove two 30lb pike legally, yet remove three 1oz roach and you end up in court ? the angling trust will be addresing this issue, thus helping to protect pike, we pike anglers should applaud this and back the organisation to the full instead of knocking it.

Re: Angling Trust - In it or Bin it?
Here's a thought, but how about the membership fee being paid for as part of our rod license?
Angling is expensive enough as it is, rod license, membership tickets, day tickets, extortionate bait costs across the sport (especially carp) let alone tackle costs...
To me it's yet ANOTHER thing to dip into our pockets for... Well, quite frankly, if it can be proved to be a worthy and needed cause then get a grant from the government...

Angling Trust
This amalgamation has been wanted for years.
There are too many so called anglers who want owt for nowt
Personally I am a member of the ACA and look forward to the new organisation helping keep the peace & bring some order back to angling.
That is, if they can police the waters, stop pollution, stop poaching, kill Cormorants & Gooseanders [ and poachers]
