Re: done to death
OK, it may have been asked before but lets see what happens.
Open bail arm or fishing off the baitrunner??
Now I have only ever fished for pike with open bail arm and dropoff(back to the days of a ping pong ball, hair grip and a bit of line)and always did the same for cats until my last trip when I had forgotten the dropoffs so fished carp style with bobbins and freespool, the result was 2 30s and a 20.
I have seen what I call carpikers useing this method, and have always dismissed it as being detrimental but am now thinking maybe it could have a few advantages.
Over to you guys for your opinions.

i have previously fished with the baitrunner on, but as years go by the pike seem to drop at any resistance. Now i only fish with open bail arm, 3oz running lead, back to a fox swinger. no resistance whatsoever then.

I know they get caught higher up in the deepwater on lures. But nit at the bottom I don't think. Suppose they will go that deep for the powen n arctic char on some of the lake district waters. Got to go where the food is.

As generalisms go its not bad. Ask though why depthraiders legends are so popular though.
Ive caught them down to 90 feet. However 15-40 tends to be the usual.
If any of you are interested then one of the main factors over the depth pike sit at is a phenominum named turnover

the bottom is the furthest they can go! Their eyes are on top of their heads so I reckon they have the advantage when they are on the deck, they have a channel down their snout so that their forwards vision is perfect too.
