30 plus traces
Has anyone used the ready made traces in the 30 plus range, i struck into a fish over the weekend and after a decent scrap the hook pulled and when i reeled in the hook had actually bent near enough straight.

30 plus traces
I make my own with Drennan seven strand 28lb and always crimp it, and use quality trebles mate. Ive never ever had a trace fail so far, and never had a hook straighten.
The trouble with bought stuff is that to make a profit, they will use cheap stuff.
Get yourself the stuff ive listed above and you wont have a problem. Its great to make your own traces. you get a lot of satisfaction through making them and catching on them as well.

Never used any ready made traces.
I twist drennan 7 strand and use vmc or fox hooks,I can then fish confident that my trace is as good as it can be.
If it"s good enough for Eddie Turner it"l do for me.

Re: 30 plus traces
I've said this previously, i have tried the 30 plus hooks and lost a big river pike when under reasonable strain (though no more than i ould normally give) the hook bend outwards. At the time i was gutted - and the hooks went straight in the bin.
On the flip side, i have other 30 plus products (barbel rod, weigh sling etc) and would highly recommend them.

I have a couple of 30+ landing nets,a 36 and a 42, both very good for the money.jimlad wrote:I've said this previously, i have tried the 30 plus hooks and lost a big river pike when under reasonable strain (though no more than i ould normally give) the hook bend outwards. But it sounds like the ready made traces need to be avoided.

Hello Bones welcome to the forum. Were you using single hooks or trebles? Normally I manage to get at least two of the hooks on a treble into the pike, sometimes im lucky and manage to get both sets of hooks into a fish, sounds like you had a right old time, that said a friend of mine had some of those 30 plus jobs and I did think the hooks looked a bit pants.
Stay on the forum and have a look at all the great info on how to tie your own, it gives you a great feeling when you land fish on your own set ups.

It"s not just the cost(although you will save money) its about having the traces the exact way you want them, and considering it takes very little time and effort,it has to be the way to go.tomthepiker wrote:i think thats going to be my next adventure making my own traces up got to be cheaper in the long run aswell thats always a bonus

Re: 30 plus traces
Like most of the others, never used shop bought traces always make my own at least then If you lose a fish you can only blame yourself and not some of the shoddily made pre packaged crap. Also in addition to being cheaper you can keep yourself occupied whilst waiting for a run knocking a few uppers and lowers (traces).
