Running ledger rig length
Right then chaps lets see what ideas you lot have on this.
Whats the ideal length for a running ledger link
i've always made them at least 18" longer than my trace to stop tangles whilst casting and what prefered mono breaking strain do you use

Ive never used a leger rig like that Leebob. Mine is as follows...................3oz lead directly onto a split link on a run ring ( no lenghths of line to get tangled ) and its free to run, back to pike swingers, buzzers, open bail arm . Positive bite indication straight away as a fish picks the bait up this way also no resistance at all.
The way you describe, the pike could pick up the bait and move a bit with it before any indication and therefore a possible deep hooked fish ??. Thats what i think, unless anyone knows differently. Hope this helps mate.

Re: running ledger link length
Ehh up dougie m8
Cheers for that good advise, i've used that method as well but the long link has always worked for me -no tangles or deep hooked fish but maybe just been lucky. I still use the fox swingers and front fox alarms like you do.
Off out tues for a sesion so am gunna try your method and see how we go.

Watcha Leebob, yer give it a go see how you get on. I know a lot of the lads on here fish the same way i do, but thas not saying yours is any way wrong mate. were all different and got different ideas. What works for one doesnt sometimes work for another. Works for me though.
Good luck when you go, and let me know what you think of the rig that way.

Re: Running ledger rig length
i use more or less the same type of rig i.e 3oz free running lead swingers and front alarms to an open bail arm.

Re: Running ledger rig length
i use the mono length but only have it 6 inches longer than the end of my bait, big eyed swivel as the run ring, and a four ounce lead on the end i may drop to three on softer bottoms with a big practice golfball underneath the swivel on the lead link. however more often i find myself using five ounce leads as they stay put and barring liners or daft swans/dogs/mates throwing twigs/teabags they only drop off when the bait is picked up
