flooded rivers
i went out spinning earlier on a near by river, it was flooded and the currant was strong, i didn't catch anything apart from sticks being washed down stream lol
i was just wondering wether the pike would still hold in their normal kind of places?? or do i have any hope at all?

flooded rivers
Hi Drew. Ive caught loads of pike in flooded rivers with a big deadbait on. The smellier the better i think in those conditions. Use a heavy lead and anchor it to the bottom, back to dropoffs and buzzers. Should do the trick.
I also try to look for slack eddy's / areas where there might be a big tree for example holding back the current at that point. Or an undercut under the bank. These sorts of places will often hold fish so they can get out the strong current.

Re: flooded rivers
i did see a few slack calmer areas but the currant outside of it was sending my lure the opposite direction at a rate of knots! lol
i mentioned to my brother we should take the dead bait rods but he disagreed and said that the bait i had left over were too smelly, mind you i have had them a wile now and they are still in 1 piece lol do you think they would catch then??
cheers

Hi chaps,
Drew you just asked the question i was going to put in, Doug when you say big smelly baits, is that the mackeral left festering from the last session, or do you mean flavoured bait?
Cheers Peewee

peewee saying that i remember a few months ago October time, i went fishing at a venue and left 1 or 2 mackerel on the bank, went back 2 days later with fresh bait and found the 2 i left, i used 1 fresh and one of the "manky" ones and had more luck on the old ones i wished id left more lol.

Re: flooded rivers
I definately wouldnt use a lure, cause logic states that they cant see it in the brown flooded waters. I know they can feel vibration, but i reckon it would be a lost cause using lures.
I normally prefer to use fresh deadbaits, but when the rivers brown and pushing, yes, the baits left out from the previous sesh may well work. Good old smelly ones should do the trick. Dont bother with the lures lads.

Il bare that in mind next time, and yh come to think of it the viability was really poor and the vibrations probably wouldn't have made a difference because of the fast flowing water dragging all the crap of the day along with it lol

Re: flooded rivers
Cheers Doug,
Always willing to learn is my motto!!!! any advice would be gratefully received
See ive always used the freshest of bait, sounds like im gonna try that next on the river.
Most of the books i have read from respected anglers say fresh bait, but you cant ask a book a question.
I think i remeber Des Taylor fishing for barbel with hemp that was so rotten, he heaved taking the lid off the bucket. He managed to catch with smelly rotten bait.
I fished sunday, river was up slightly, nice slack area, fresh bait, caught one jack about three pound. pehaps smelly would have been the winning method.
