Anyone tried vertical jigging on Windermere (or anywhere else)??
I had a trip to Windermere on Sunday and I decided to try something different, vertical jigging from my boat. I have a fish finder and was fishing in depths from 20-50ft, right on top of large fish, some of which had to be pike, but I didn't catch unfortunately. I used a silvery shad of about 7-8 inch and also a sprat. I was confident as I knew the bait was always on the bottom where I could see the fish were holding, I used my electric motor to move along a specific depth at a very slow speed, but to no avail.
I also threw a few lures out and static dead baited briefly, again, in areas where I knew fish were.....luckily I haven't had many days where I've blanked on Windermere, but this was one!
Has anyone else tried vertical jigging from a boat on there? I think I will keep trying it when I go, as at least you know you are always on bottom where the fish are and bite detection is no problem......
Cheers in advance...

Hi Stubbo
I've seen some great you tube footage from the USA using it to catch some whoppers. I've read up on it quite a bit and I'm sure I wasn't going too far wrong technique wise, but practice make perfect! I am confident it will be a good string to the bow once I've mastered it, fish are fish, so if it works elsewhere in the world, I'm sure it will work here.....

Looks a nice boat, is it a PK too? Mine is fairly small, 12ft by 4ft, and I got it so I could deal with it myself if alone without a trailer, it does the job! I need to sort some rod holding device like yours to neaten it up when fishing, might get on with it this week......

I do quite a lot of verticle jigging for perch, and this Saturday and the following Sunday I'm out on Rutland jigging the depths for zander, very addictive style of fishing, got another lure delivery yesterday

verticle jigging
this jigging lark , is it basicly the same when fishing for mackerel on the sea , but on a smaller scale
the lead has got to be on the bottom surely and the lures dotted further up spaced apart

No, that's similar to dropshotting tho, its basicly a jig hook with a weighted ball on with a rubber shad mounted on it (stingers optional) advised on bigger shads and if after zeds, 3-5" shads ideal, and the jigging action is quite subtle to tempt zeds
For perch I use shads between 2-4" my ultralite setup is a 2-10g rod and 1000 reel loaded with light braid 16lb sunline pe and landed pike to 17:10 on this setup while using small jigs for perch, the jigging action for perch can be quicker and when their on they can be very savage, but they love little jigs
Only a smaller perch around 1.5lb but they'll hammer 3" jigs

sorry pal your right getting mixed up there with dropp shotting ......... thats what i thought it was so you jig the lure hitting bottom and how far would you come off by lifting the rod up and downAsh morton wrote:Its cut the pic down so can't see the jig hanging out its mouth
i take it you are on the drift as to cover more ground
i know you would target perch but would you use a trace just incase pike muscle in on it
like the sound of this type of fishing

I always use a trace, micro swivel 20lb trace wire and a gemini clip as pick up a lot of rouge pike, and the trace don't bother the perch, to fish proper verticle on drift, but I do a lot of casting them too and jigging back, can be anything from an inch off bottom and slow to a ft and fast, what they want on the day! I use a lot of small rapalas too for perch 5cm jointed shad raps and similar! Perch love a lure

That's some serious rubber!!
Sounds like I was doing the technique pretty much right, so I will keep trying it when I go. Bound to pick up a fish sooner or later!
