Re: what is a cd rig?
it can be a fantastic rig in the right situation, as will any rig it offers less resistance to a taking fish than the more usual paternoster style of rig and keeps baits higher in the water than a ledgered rig.
although for pike id use a wire uptrace as well and possibly something heavier than the amnesia and more tooth proof (floats are expensive lol) well if your using lives i would if its only for deads its not essential
on the odd occation i use this rig i tend to use 100lb mono between the float and runring and always use a wire uptrace with a tiny size 10 swivel where it connects to the main line, in fact the traces are the same ones i use for ledgering livebaits

yeah i've used this rig before.... complete with uptrace and the only problem i have found with it is the lead hanging 3 feet below the mainline when you get a pike on making it more awkward than normal to play a fish.... and for this reason i only tend to use this rig for fishing livebaits in fairly deep snag free swims and try to keep the pike close to the surface while playing it (i dont use a rotten bottom on it although i may do in future just incase)
