Spinnerbaits! Empty Spinnerbaits!

Does anyone use them? I'd always put them into the 'sea fishing' catagory, probably due to their big single hook, but i bought a couple online and cannot believe the results. After going fishing for no more than an hour yesterday, i had 3 and lost 2, and this morning i had 2 in a quick 20 minute session before a load of anglers came a started taking the pegs. Nothing massive, up to 2-3 pound, but yesterday the lads i spoke to had only had a couple of hits in a good few hours fishing. It almost felt like shooting fish in a barrel. I am honestly gobsmacked. Have i maybe stumbled onto something the pike here have maybe never seen, or more probably found the level the fish are at (bouncing the lure across the bottom). I'm impressed anyway!

It has little to do with the fish having seen them or not. Pike get taken on all kinds of things from mackerel to sausages to firetiger jerkbaits.

Spinnerbaits just work. Whether it's the thump from the blade or the rippling skirt, I can't say but pike seem to like them.

spinnerbaits just seem to work when other lures dont ,
i first used them in canada in 2010 , excellent for the muskie and walleye .
do know of a few anglers who add a stinger hook and also tip the hook with a plastic grub type lure . something like one with twin tails ,so you get even more movement in the water .
i try to buy the ones with 2 blades so you get more flash and vibration

When I 1st tried spinnerbaits the pike went mental for them, i was amazed at the time, it was 1989 & to be honest I reluctantly bought one thinking they'd never catch.
Still great lures today, even though the pike see a greater variety of lure types.
What surprises me is the hook up ratio is pretty good, plus how few pike get hooked under the chin, from memory i "think" I've only ever had 2 hooked under the chin which I still think is odd. You'd expect more pike would grab the blade/s & get hooked underneath?
Phil.
