Flappy handles! Empty Flappy handles!

Post  daveb on Thu Dec 20, 2012 10:04 am

So, I've just purchaced a lurvley pair of Shimano Baitrunner OC's, this being my first venture into front drag baitrunners. Anyway, I'm used to the handles on my Aero's where you can loosen the nut on the right of the reel body to allow the handle to fold and, once folded, you can re-tighten the nut to secure the folded handle, perfect for storage and when your rod's are rigged but broken down in a rod holdall etc.

Now, the OC's have a large (and very niceely machined) single handle which has a different fitting to the Shimano's I'm used to. Basically, the handle screws directly into the reel body without requireing a nut on the other side to secure it. If you want to fold the handle you have to unscrew it till it allows the joint to fold (like normal baitrunners) but there is no way at that point to secure the folded handle - it just flaps around all over the place and because it is quite large this really gets in the way when it's on broken down rods in a quiver/holdall.

I'm aware there are bigger problems in the world but has anyone experienced this and do you have a solution to securing the handle on a reel like this when its folded down i.e. to stop it flapping around?

thanks
