As some of you may already know, I help with a local volunteer project looking after the upkeep at Martin Wells Lake, Edlington.

Apart from looking after the lake and the surrounding area, we are (thanks to generous funding) in the process of installing new fishing pegs and just last November a new car park was installed. None of this and any upcoming projects would be possible without the support and funding we receive as a volunteer group.

At the last meeting, I was asked if I would like to be put forward for an Angling Coaching Course run by the Angling Trust as I am the only angler on the commitee. I of course wholeheartedly accepted. Very Happy

I have, just a few minutes ago, completed the application form and will be sending it on it's merry way in the morning.

I really do hope I am accepted and go on to complete the courses (stage 1 and 2) so I can help to coach the local youngsters.

Who knows, I could even start hiring my skills out, eventually. Wink

I'll keep you all up to date with any progress.

Well, it's been a long while coming but I've finally done the stage 1 course work and have been told in about 5-6 weeks I should recieve my certificate and licence if I'm successful.

Due to some setbacks and finding a placement in the local area it took a lot longer than usual. The coach says as far as he is concerned, I've been successful but my work has to be sent off for independent marking and verification. Hence the waiting for certification and licence.

What it will allow me to do is assist a Level 2 coach in tutoring the kids that have joined our junior angling club that started a couple of months ago.

Dunno if I'm going to go for Level 2 yet. Give it a year or two before coming to any conclusion as it is a massively more intense course.

Hope I can get the locals who fish there more interested in the pike fishing. A lot of them actually complain about the pike.

I think it's going to be hard work.......
