Hi Stubbo,
I use either titanium with a fastach clip at the fly end and a small 40-45lb swivel at the line end. I also use the PowerPro steel braid or Authanic Wire but if it is new, drag a black/brown marker down it, it is a bit shiny at first. I don't like the wire I use for bait or lure fishing as this can kink easily while casting and then you have to replace. I don't trust my knotting wire to do without the clip and swivel (or ring).

Yep, I crimp on the fastach and the swivel. I've seen knots but I can't get mine to look neat, not sure I trust them but others have. Dougie Loughbridge put up a few pics on the PAC forum a while back, knotted and sealed with UV resin I think, might have been epoxy though, best check. I usually just do one pass of the wire but seen youtube clip where they pass it back and then slide the main length of wire to the right length. They say it is safer but I've not had on slip yet, even leaving the fly on a tree-root, always broken on the fluoro leader (30lb).

I use "Knot 2 Kinky", its a nickel/titanium leader wire, 25lb single strand. It can be knotted but I crimp it but as Alan Robertson says, its difficult to knot neatly Cool

I use surflon knotable wire, I have been tying it straight on to the fly but to be honest I think I'm just wasting trace when I'm changing fly. The other week I had a take from a good fish and came back without the trace and was wondering if I had let it get too short. I must use a clip to attach the fly if anyone can recommend some good ones ?
