ho Jimmy
a nice 2lb testcurve rod 9/10foot
an old pike rod at 11foot would suit better

no need to go mad on top notch rods as you will abuse the rod occasionally

Tatics:
normal snap tackle.
bait:
sprats,small herrings,smelt,trout etc.
action:
slow jerky, wind and stop, above all dont wind too fast? stop let bait settle and start moving again.

An 11 foot rod cut down to length...is that what you mean?

yes Andy,
it gives that little extra feel for gentle takes.
once had a pike sneak right under my feet and gently pick bait up as it flutered down in margins, soft rod would not have detected it.

Sounds good. I had a 7 foot lure rod that I cut down to 6 foot and re-tipped to make it a little stiffer and give me more room and lure control. I can totally understand why you'd modify the rod you've suggested in the way you have. makes perfect sense to me mate. I like it.

In fact, my mate made a wobbling/freelining rod with the butt section of a spinning rod and the top section of a 9/10 weight fly-rod. It was amazing. I said he should have taken it to Daiwa to look at and modify but he didn't think it was worth the effort. I thought he and they missed a trick....big time. I wonder if he still has the thing???
