Big lure set up

Post  amuz45 on Sat Mar 01, 2014 8:37 pm

Fairly new to lure fishing, but have a few questions i'm wondering about and wondered if anyone can help me?

I currently have a 7ft 10g-35g set up for my local canal and ponds and every think seam balanced and have caught a few pike on it.
But i'm looking at getting a set up for larger lakes and reservoirs.

Can anyone advise me what set up I would be looking for?
I'm looking for something that can cast big lures 70g to 150g quite far easily.
Don't want to spend more that £150 on rod and reel.  Fixed spool ok or bait caster best?
What size braking strain braid and trace for this kinda work as well?

Sorry if this question has been asked befor.

first up the lures you use now will work on bigger waters dont think you need bigger lures for bigger waters

second the big lures will work just as well on the places you fish now

rod wise for bigger stuff you need a multiplier set up
cheap rods from daiwa nash fox abound all do the job reels abus rule as most use them but dont be put off by models like daiwas proteus 300 shimano corsair etc

a lot depends on what and how you want to fish. is it shallow and you need to launch lures to the horizon, or do you have deep water at your feet and feel the need to crawl stuff on the bottom in 30 feet?

Hopefully IF I get a big set up I'll have all base's covered with my lighter rod as well.

Seen the Savage Gear Big Lure & Jerk Rod & Fox Rage Ultron Casting Lure any one using these at the moment?

Not sure of what reel to go with yet
