Can somebody tell me why there are few rivers in Scotland that contain pike?It seems like England have rivers full of them but up here they are mainly found in canals and still waters.

There is still a lot of big pike to be had in certain rivers in Scotland, but you have to remember that Scotlands rivers mainly cater for game anglers and any signs of pike means a lot of fish getting threw up the bank mate......

I suppose most of our rivers are fished for game fish,I've never heard of anybody fishing rivers near where I live for pike.Get a bit jealous watching the fishing program's on the telly and they're pulling zander and pike out of loads of rivers, lol.

Like in England the rivers in Soctland have pike in them, one of the big problem is getting permission to fish for them

if you get it results can be good. I have permission to fish some the biggest so far is 23.5lb.

Up here in Forres the rivers are all salmon and trout. Over nearer Inverness they are actively removing pike from the rivers around Loch Ness (salmon Board).

The battle between the gamers/people not catch and releasing Pike and the pike anglers means there are less and less places.

Everything is very much hush hush and itsvery hard for new anglers to get into pike fishing. The local clubs can be quite cliquey to.

ive been fishing for pike for two years now and only know two spots that there are fish and they are both miles away. one of these is next to the Ness and has had the pike slowly removed. we used to catch 6-8 a session now we r lucky if we catch one. I took a 27lber out of that spot. a beautiful pike, i live in hope its still there.

there are loads of rivers and lochs around forres biut no sign of pike Sad

If its true about the game fisherman then that's shocking:-0.From what ive seen on tv most rivers down south are full of pike and other species,up here its just not the same:-(.Scottish rivers tend to be brown trout, sea trout, salmon and grayling if your lucky! To catch anything else you have to go to a still water.I know a guy who fishes at a club where the water is stocked with rainbows but there are naitive fish in it,perch and brown trout. And now every 2nd Monday they have a 'perch' night where they all fish for perch and kill all they catch, its going into he hundreds now. This is because the the guys who fish it are fed up catching the odd perch!!I think that's disgusting, they could release them somewhere else.

ness.dsfb.org.uk/files/2013/08/Ness-Plan-2011-13

There is mention of pike removal from a certain loch on the attached.

just happens to be be where i used to fish and the frequency of catches have dropped off .

its alo noticeable that the spot i use has been more used by less discerning fishermen with beer cans and tackle left lying everywhere. i suspect these uncaring fishermen are also removing the fish as they clearly dont give a monkeys. The spot is actually a picnic spot beside a church and is frequently used by non fishermen and ive been lectured on more than one occassion about not leaving a mess. Even in the pitch black i have managed to ensur ei leave nothing by taking care to tidy stuff up.

in fact when we arrive and have our lines out we tend to tidy up all the rubbish left lying by other "fishermen" there has been yards of line left tangled in trees. treble sinbedded in the picnic table etc etc.

some folk want to ruin it for everyone!

anyhow ill look out the photo of the pb fish i caught there as its a beauty!
