Rubber mesh landing net Empty Rubber mesh landing net

Post  Hiker on Mon Nov 24, 2014 6:27 pm

I'm getting fed up of trebles tangled in the landing net and am looking to buy a rubber net. I would prefer one that folds for easy storage and carrying. The ones I have looked at either don't fold or have a handle that's too short and not compatible with standard screw in handles. Any suggestions folks?

Just change your mesh to Dave lumbs lure mesh? What I've done on my bank net on 42" arms

I think Savage Gear do a folding telescopic landing rubberised net, Alex Makk has one If I remember rightly..
The Dave Lumb mesh one not currently showing on his website?

There are many situations where chinning is not an option. Steep banks, banks where obstacles prevent getting to waters edge and a loose treble to mention a few. Chinning under these circumstances could be hazardous. Which is why a net is an essential piece of kit.

I have looked at the Savage net but been informed that the handle is only 84cm. Is yours longer than this? I haven't seen one with an extended handle.

I have a Savage gear net too but I don't like it. The mechanism is fiddly to set up with cold fingers and that orange stitching that holds it all together is like a hook magnet. The all-in-one construction means you're stuck with what you have so you can't fit a longer extending handle for instance - essential for river fishing from the bank.

I messaged Savage Gear for a replacement mesh, but they don't do it. Even the UK distributors wouldn't help. I might end up buying a full net unless anyone knows how to rubberise a normal net?

Dave lumbs lure mesh, better than rubber to get trebles out

The one I have is the extending one, it only goes out to six feet or so. When I'm on the river I need a much longer handle, I use the Gardner extending handle which goes out to ten feet.

Eric has hit the nail on the head here. I think tackle firms are missing a trick with the lack of suitable landing nets. A 6ft handle is simply not good enough to cover all aspects of river fishing, especially some of the banks I fish on. I use the Drennan twist lock which, despite its mixed reviews, I find brilliant, reliable and solid, as well as being 2.4m. But im having to get away with a standard 42" triangular head without rubber mesh. Question is, who will be the first company to offer a suitable, all encompassing, river net!! Is it too much to ask (wallet currently twitching face)

I use the 30" Korum latex coated spoon net with the Drennan 3metre super specialist handle, its been great for the last three years. The net itself is not collapsable so it wouldn't suit everybody. Just ordered one of the savage nets to see what its like, I hope I'm not going to regret it, reading some of the previous comments! The Dave Lumb replacement mesh gets more and more attractive!

I got the Savage rubber mesh net and Christened today with yet another Jack. What Eric says about them is very accurate and that orange soft thread binding they use really is a hook magnet, my treble soon found it. Plus the handle is compromised in length and not great for river Piking.
Ash has made the best suggestion as far as I am concerned with the Dave Lumb 42" rubber net mesh, next time I'm on the 'Pit' I'll ask him about it

I'll bring it along to a meeting 1 time barry if you want to nosey, I've got it on some 42" arms with my bank fishing gear, iv got the large deep (36") fox rubber net head what I've used for last few years with a sawn down handle for boat fishing and this is good and doesn't stink the van out (I leave wet net and mats in van) but just replaced this as I've managed to get my hands on the old original fox stowaway boat net, which I managed to christen yesterday on its first outing with a good haul,

Rubber mesh landing net Image10

Out of the 3 meshes the lumby is probably the most tangle proof, only problem with it are the holes are slightly on the large size so could cause fin damage maybe and leads can drop through them, the big round fox rubber head is too large for bank situations to carry or that would be good, the stowaway seems like its guna be a good bit of kit tho
