Anybody fish the river medway?

Post  Repronaz on Fri Dec 12, 2014 1:08 pm

Hey guys,

Newbie here about to start up over xmas (when the wife gives me my outfit).
I have most things I will need as far as I am aware (have researched rather than guessed) but would appreciate anyone who lives/fishes in this area to keep a fella company and maybe show me the basics (not after all your knowledge, just help avoiding doing anything wrong).
I dont know anybody who practises lure fishing and dont want to hurt any pike during my learning by going out alone and getting things wrong.
I will consider the odd day ticket here and there aswell but would like to use this wonderful free resource that is on my doorstep when I can.

Thanks in advance for any help advice

Steve

sorry mate can,t help with the medway coz I,m about 200 miles away but , if your new to lure fishing for pike on rivers 1 thing I would advise is using soft-plastic shads on jig-heads because dealing with just 1 hook rather than trebles is easier till you get used to handling pike , try some kopyto,s in 3 or 4 inch sizes , also in coloured water spinnerbaits are good ., Smile

Excellent, I'll order one in a minute although the smallest size is 35 grams which is the top rating of my rod. Is it worth grinding off the barb or leave it on?

Thanks stubbo.
Extra question: I'm a whittler/carver and have been thinking about trying to make some lures. Would single be any good set into a hard lure or are they only really any good for sorts?

Guess that has something to do with most wood floating. Might be a bit heavy to use either a dense enough wood to sink or fill with shot to make it sink? Food for thought though
