Need a new reel
I was out for a couple hours earlier on and I noticed the baitrunner on 1 of my reels wouldn't cancel. Can anyone recommend a decent big-pit reel in the £40-£50 range it doesn't have to be a baitrunner.

Have a look at the Okuma range of reels. I have wychwoods on my beach rods and my spod/spomb/marker rod and they are certainly work horses but the Okumas are better.

Re: Need a new reel
I had a look at the okumas and the wychwood as well as a few others at GAC earlier and although I agree the okumas are probably better they don't come with a spare spool and I like having the option of switching between braid and mono so I'll probably go with the wychwood.matt859 wrote:Have a look at the Okuma range of reels. Has to be done. I don't mind buying from the tackle shops if its only a few quid cheaper online but £20 a big difference.MAD BAD ANGLER wrote:i'm very happy with mine bud, think your doing right thing though, go check some out then get on ebay lol

Re: Need a new reel
got to agree on the penns, they are simply the nuts fot the money and pretty much unbreakable in normal use. i now have 5 of the penn surf blasters for long range and drifting work. these come with braid and mono alloy spools and really are the dogs mate.
even if you have to save and wait i can't recommend these enough. pound for pound these are way better than shimanos and have a super slow oscillation for a really good line lay. my casting is s**t and these make me look good!

Re: Need a new reel
I've had to fix a mates whychwood reels big baitrunner things
I wouldn't touch them sorry very poor reel far too many silly springs and bit of plastic to go wrong
If you want big pits and have the cash then penn are way up there just don't get carried away and buy 8000's they are far too big
The 7000 ltd are probably the best as they come with two deep spools
Second hand the. It would be emblem s or old shimano aerlex/biomaster gt models
Normal reels the old shimanos any day of week gt 6010 or older are best I still use gm the original aero aerlex gtr models
If you do go down the second hand shimano or daiwa route look for
Made in japan
They really are better for piking than many of the new ones out there

What reel is it on some like shimanos it's a pin that's gone and only costs a couple of quid to fix
Re: Need a new reel
Its an okuma proforce. I managed to fix it after l'd bought the wychwood riot. I'd been wanting to upgrade my reels for a while anyway but the missus wouldn't let me unless they broke lolnoodle wrote:fatcaff wrote:I was out for a couple hours earlier on and I noticed the baitrunner on 1 of my reels wouldn't cancel.
