Windemere/lakes
Hi chaps, first post here so excuse me.
I'm up in the lakes for two weeks, ive been here previously but not fished. This time I've brought my dead bait gear to do some bank fishing.
Wondered if anyone fancies sharing a day out perhaps? Maybe even share a boat?
Anyhow feel free to PM me or comment below.
All the best, Liam

Please please please be sure your rigs are safe. There are sharp rocky ledges everywhere and steep (very steep) dropoffs and it is so easy for your lead and/or bait to get trapped resulting in you snapping off. Every baited trace left in the water will be swallowed by a pike and that pike will then die.
You should use a weak link on your lead, a paperclip will do and make sure your line is strong enough to open out your hooks if they get caught up. Fish with a float up the line. The float doesn't need to be on the surface, it isn't for indication it's to keep the line out of the rocks.
Sorry if I sound like I'm preaching but for years we've had people fishing up there with unsafe rigs and there's no doubt we've lost a lot of fish because of it.

Re: Windemere/lakes
best to use 18lb min and fine wire type trebles in rocky and snaggy areas it can be harmful to use very strong trebles in that environment as they wont bend out and to be honest they wont bend out of a pike if your playing it correctly ie the clutch setting should always be on the slack side at the start of the fight,, then tightened up accordingly........as eric says use a float or polaris type which I have use in very deep swims to good effectEric Edwards wrote:Please please please be sure your rigs are safe.
