Rod advice

Post  petestanley on Fri Apr 10, 2015 6:02 pm

My mate has decided to come over to the dark side and get himself a multiplier set up for his general lure fishing, after seeing how easy it is the use my set up. I use a Dave lumb raider with an abu revo. He's not sure he wants to spend quite do much on a rod, so has anyone got any suggestions on an alternative. My rods recommended casting weight is three quarters of an ounce to 2.5oz, so something around that weight, about 7.5ft long. Anyone use anything that fits that bill. I was looking at the savage gear mpp but don't get how you can get a rod that handles up to 120 g and wouldn't be like a poker trying to cast an oz. also, whilst I'm at it, anyone use a good multiplier similar to the revo, again for the more budget conscious.
Cheers

I use Savage Gear rods for my lighter fishing, try the Butch Light range. Don't just order one off the internet though, you really need to feel a rod in your hand before you buy.

Cheers Eric. He just wants some ideas. It's too easy to go into a tackle shop, have a play and get talked into something that's not quite right. It's not exactly like you can lob lures about in there. I'm sure if I give a few pointers from other peoples experience , it might point him in the right direction. I know a lad who bought an abu vendetta after having a play in the shop, said it felt great. Half a dozen casts later, the thing snapped. Apparently a common thing if he'd read the web properly. Cheers for the input, I'll get him to check one out. There's a savage dealer not too far. I enjoy reading your blog by the way. It's one of my go to's.

I've been using the Fox Warrior 7ft 20-80g absolutely cracking rod that handled the fish in my profile pic beautifully. There's a review by Andy Webster ere http://pikeangler.forumotion.com/t658-fox-warrior-predator-spin-7ft-20-80g?highlight=Search+Fox+Warrior+Predator+Spin+7ft+20+-80g
