Return to not too serious Fishing
Having last fished back in the mid 80s(carp & pike) I recently came across old tackle at my mums house, having sorted through i basically have a pair of rods (graham phillips pikemaster) and buzz bars I do not want to get back into carping as having seen lots of tv programmes it seems far too catching the angler rather than the fish nowadays, what i need is just some general info in reels and etc currant rules and venues i am based in north hampshire

for reliable cheap reels to start with you could do a lot worse than the wychwood riot reels. great for casting and very smooth in use. only around 45 quid each. i use berkely trilene big game mono in 15lb breaking strain as i don't like braid. it's very strong and very abrasion resistant and i have never had a knot fail in 25 years. i change it every two seasons. we have a no naming policy regarding venues on this forum but i'm sure someone down your way will pm you

I'm with Rozzo on the wychwood riots, cracking reels for the money. I use 20lb Pro-logic xlnt mono or 50lb power pro braid.

Re: Return to not too serious Fishing
Thanks for the tips on reels guys bearing in mind it was the mid 80s when I lasted fished I'am making a list of what I need and it seems to get longer so far I've got, some form of bite indication, landing net, reels and line etc, unhooking mat, still have forceps, probably boots ie skeetex I think that's what I had, still have decent brollie, Chair I have a go outdoors about 1/4 mile away and for chairs etc they seem ok, probably might get a onepiece waterproof terminal tackle and of course rod license, permits and some sort of tackle bag ,I only want to fish days and if possible do not want to become too hooked which may prove difficult, is they anything I have missed that is obvious to yourselves many thanks

just my oppinion but years ago banksticks could be used everywhere,, but nowadays with health and safety gone mad all the pegs seem to be platforms well above the water so a cheap rod pod and front alarms could be useful if you are going that way,,, if not floats and baitrunners so that your rods can be laid on the groundMytchettmuppet wrote:Thanks for the tips on reels guys bearing in mind it was the mid 80s when I lasted fished I'am making a list of what I need and it seems to get longer so far I've got, some form of bite indication, landing net, reels and line etc, unhooking mat, still have forceps, probably boots ie skeetex I think that's what I had, still have decent brollie, Chair I have a go outdoors about 1/4 mile away and for chairs etc they seem ok, probably might get a onepiece waterproof terminal tackle and of course rod license, permits and some sort of tackle bag ,I only want to fish days and if possible do not want to become too hooked which may prove difficult, is they anything I have missed that is obvious to yourselves many thanks
