fishing partner

Do you fish alone or do you have a regular fishing partner.ive just got rid of one because he never wanted to drive,every week sending the "are you driving" message.he shared the costs but we were fishing a venue requiring a 50 mile round trip and to save wear and tear on the car I suggested taking it in turns,which he agreed,got the message tonight"are you driving"needless to say,he's looking for a new chauffeur 😒

I always tend to fish alone. None of my long standing friends are anglers and do not live near me. My dad was always my fishing partner but he lives a long way away now, so we try to meet a couple of times a year for a proper fishing trip. Last year was on the Wye and although we blanked, we suggested making it an annual trip.
I have a friend I have met in the last few years who I do fish with, but not regularly, we both have family commitments at times and cannot always go at the same time. He also part shares a boat so goes fishing with that partner and sadly there is no room for me. He may plan a trip at the last minute or for only an hour and sadly my geography does not mean I can be sat waiting in the passenger seat within 60 seconds.
The other people I have "met" through on line forums and social media have often suggested meeting up, but it is always hard to arrange or people want to keep swims secret!
I am a member of 3 clubs, and aside from the matches, there is no emphasis on meeting new people from the clubs. I know of clubs that have good licensed club houses open for drinks in the evening, but sadly I do not live near those to take it up, maybe that is another aspect of angling culture to look at; the distance anglers travel to fish.
I regularly drive 60 miles plus to my chosen venue as there is not the type of fishing I do where I live. It seems quite normal for people to travel to fishing venues, so the partner needs to be local to where you live or local to the venue or indeed willing to travel. It is the norm now that us anglers are happy to add the miles to the car to be able to fish.
I think the secrecy in pike fishing is valid and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however I want to find the social aspect of angling and be able to meet someone I have never met before, go for a day’s fishing together, maybe catch some fish and maybe then find a new friend for life, to fish with or until they never want to drive!!

Nearly always fish by myself. One of my friends comes now and again in summer when the weather is half reasonable, but most of the rest of the time it's just me. Being fairly obsessive about fishing, there aren't too many people prepared to fish in the cold/wet/wind that I sometimes do and I don't want to have someone asking me to go home when I'm not ready! It would be nice to be able to share more of the fishing experiences rather than just having the odd photo I've taken myself, but I go fishing for me and not for anyone else. Plus there is only really space on the boat for me!

I love the social side of piking the craic is brilliant, the shared success enhances the good days and relieves the boredom when blanking,
But you cant beat the isolation when its needed. my best day on the bank would have not been as fruitfull if one or two of my mates had been with me, it would of likely cost me a twenty at least.
When i had my first twenty it was all the more enjoyable and satisfying having having my mate with me sharing it.
There is posatives and negatives for both is the point im making i guess.

Because I used to guide for a living its hard to know what to do. theres always someone wanting to know the hot spots and areas I fish (not big headed at all, its just that ive spent thousands of hours on the banks compared to most lads once a week) finding someone as keen as me is hard too. but having company when you land the big one is fantastic too so its swings and roundabouts. Love the social and helping others catch a PB but dont like feeling used

Last time we went,I drove.we sorted it that its wear and tear on the car and agreed to take it in turns,then he texts me are you driving?I asked him did he think I was stupid and he said yes! I've told him where I,ll be fishing on Sunday😒

I had a mate that I fished with for ten years and he never used his car once. I use to pay for him to go to Ireland each year until one year he had  
go at me over something trivial and I have not seen him since.  I felt he really used me and my good nature - b------d!!!

I have a mate now I fish with regularly but he lives on the other side of the Pennines so we tend to meet up.  We don't always fish together because there are time when one of us is busy - sometimes, tho, it's nice to sit and fish and contemplate on your own. Actually, whilst I've been laid up with
'man flu' he's caught 19lb, 21lb and yesterday a 27lb pike!!! There's no justice!!!

its very hard to find to some like minded as yourself when it comes to fishing , I am a bit of a die hard when it comes to fishing , everyone is different when it comes to the way that person approaches there pike fishing , sometimes I like to walk around a lake and have a bit of a study of the water , like wind direction and the likes before I fish maybe have a brew... had a few guys accompany me on occasions where they have caught nothing and never come again, and a few where they have caught a twenty for there very first fish , with not a thank you pal for putting me on that peg on days where I have been just a guide , happy just for them to catch a fish .I fish mainly on my own and most of the time do better , but not of late as you all know , my mind set on fishing as been way off form as my wife has been very ill for a while and I have a lot of family commitments that take up a lot of my spare time . another reason I don't really buddy up , is I don't want to let anybody down at the last minute due to the family or daily upsets that regularly happen these days , but its nice to have somebody with you and to see them catch a good fish .... makes me feel good inside

I quite often fish alone but my 10yr old son has taken an interest so it's nice to take him along, it's only recently and through this forum I've met like minded people, really enjoyed the social made me want to go with others, like others have said share the blanks and share the glory

we have all been there pal at some point , the thing is, if its spoiling the day pal ....... sometimes it takes a while to find out they are ass holes ,,,,,,,get rid I say.......

He's gone😒 used to fish with my son but he has a job now that involves weekend working,so we cant fish together much nowadays
