Quarry fishing
Looking for some tips for a quarry near by where i live.Last time i caught a pike out there was around 15 years ago and havnt heard of anybody catching a pike out there in that time.I believe they are still there the problem I think is the layout of the place it's deep, very deep.Theres a ledge that runs round the entire quarry, goes out about 10ft the drops straight down to anywhere from 20-50ft.What methods would you guys use in such a venue. The last pike i caught took a float fished sprat.Didnt get a take until the bait had drifted just off the ledge.I would like to ledger a bait but it seems so deep to do so.To fish a bait on a float just off bottom would require a stop knot set about 40ft deep?!Certain parts are very snaggy as well. Its really just a deep basin.Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Quarry fishing
leger baits as normal bud. at least your not having to cast silly long range to catch. if the fish are there they will still pick baits of the bottom.just make sure the indication is bang on

would be better to float with that steep ledge palcoops440 wrote:leger baits as normal bud. at least your not having to cast silly long range to catch. if the fish are there they will still pick baits of the bottom.just make sure the indication is bang on
fished a few venues like that and it could be very damaging to your line or braid it would not be a problem using a stop not set up but use a heavy bullet type weight and a large float as it is deep , I would fish a bait just suspended above that ledge and one bait on the bottom over the ledge maybe a polaris type which are ideal when set up correctly ...good luck

Thanks for the replies gents, was going ledger/float and just feel my way around the place.Fish it during the summer for the perch and roach but not had a bait on the water for pike for years but they must still be there. Is it right the pike will be in the deeper water when it's colder?
