Re: Fishing Canal Problems
Sorry I can't remember its not too bad its the bait you can't seem to get anywhere else that I go for I also got 2 nice size goldfish from them I've had some nice pike on goldfish in the past
I must give the jackpike a go soon not long before the pike season ends now and I've only managed to get out a few times

Re: Fishing Canal Problems
Hard to beat (fresh) roach in my opinion. It's a remarkable robust hook bait, ideal for twitching/wobbling too.

Re: Fishing Canal Problems
I had a waggler out all yesterday and not a sniff of any live bait aside from that baby pike at the end of the night.
I might spend my summer collecting roach as i go float fishing over the warm weather. Try collect a decent amount for the winter.
Does anyone do this?

Re: Fishing Canal Problems
I catch all mine in September. Dip them in water, then on a dinner tray single depth in the top of freezer. When they are rock hard put them in 5 at a time in ziplock sandwich bags and straight back in the freezer. They don't stick together, the fins are intact and best of all last 12 months.
Re: Fishing Canal Problems
Hey thanks for that info. I tend to get a lot of Perch over the summer, are they any good for deadbait?

Re: Fishing Canal Problems
Its a funny bait. Some love them I absolutely detest them Skins too thick to strike out of and lots of lost fish. Someone will be along shortly to tell you how great they are lol. Try them on your waters, they could be great
Re: Fishing Canal Problems
I'll give them a go next time a Perch decides it wants my bait.

Re: Fishing Canal Problems
I like perch as lovebait but not had a lot of luck with them as deadbait come to think of it I've not had much luck with anything so for this season
Big perch also love smaller perch so they make good livebait for perch Baits ☺☺

Re: Fishing Canal Problems
Outstanding fish, clearly full of spawn. Well done!
Just as a point aside, I would not be standing up fully with any fish (and certainly not a large pike like that) over a hard surface like the paving there. One hard thrash for the pike and it could kill it. Best to take photos with a large fish kneeling over an unhooking mat or soft grass. Just constructive criticism, as it could be the difference between a fish being returned intact or severely injured or worse.

I'm Back
Hey guys, im back at the Pike again and i think i have emptied the whole canal in my area. Now i am looking for something bigger as not getting over 30s here.
Can anyone put me on to a Pike Lake/Pond/Dam/Canal in west or around Yorkshire as i am driving now i can move around a bit.
Heres some pics of a couple of nippers i caught last week.
Hope all are well and thanks to the lads who helped me earlier this year when i was pulling my hair out blanking, them wise words have brought me on loads.

cracking fish pal well done , but please don't take your fish over hard ground pal , plus your giving everyone a landmark to where you are catching , well inHDangler wrote:Another PB at 23lb on the nose.
