Well, I'll be out on the first day of the pike season at the local commercial next Wednesday. I'll be fishing, but also helping the fishery police the other pike anglers to ensure all boxes are ticked regarding correct nets, unhooking mats and tools, semi barbless hooks etc. I'll be interesting to see what comes out, as the water has pike to about 24lb.

hard going but a nice day out

Post  stubbo on Sat Oct 28, 2017 8:59 pm

went out yesterday arrived 8.00am †straight out on the boat ..... this water is about 280 acres in size so not small †and full of trout
tried all the usual lures in between 4 rods out on dead baits , dropshotting the lot †, we tried it all.
had the fish finder with me but could only find very small pockets of fish so we fished around these baitfish but nothing , not even a jack †really thought we would catch every thing was spot on weather was kind to us on the day , think there was 10 boats out and never seen a fish landed....heard there was a 25lb fish caught the day earlier on the bank.......that's fishing for you..... †had my mate with me who wanted to catch something a bit bigger than a jack..... hence the venue † ha ho Very Happy this is my 4th time here and never caught a fish yet, but there are some quality fish to be caught.......

we actually went out in thick mist ,but it soon lifted for us to see the fantastic views mountains all around us , my mate had a take on a large trout replicant type.... put some nice big slices through it....... that's the closest we came to a fish on the day ...I will have a good fish out before I snuff it out of there.....if it kills me Laughing

I think I recognise the place - I had a season ticket on there a few years back I only had one pike all season.

Every year it turns up a twenty pounder and I was in the boat when someone nearby caught a thirty. I think if you have a bait in te water you have every chance! I agree tho. it is a beautiful place to fish.

trout waters can be very frustrating as you know †its like fishing chew but on a smaller scale , its all about location on there , its one of them places the more you fish the better you get , as in fish finding, features
did you bank fish or boat fish most of the time. Very Happy

Dave (the fishery manager) let me take my own boat on there. There is a bank, where the trout pens used to be, by anchoring on the top and fishing the drop off on both sides - I know a lot of the big pike came from here but not for me. How much is it for a boat these days.
