Thanks Craig. †the lad is a pure gentleman so it was fantastic to help him. †He has been pike fishing for over 20 years and never beat an 18lb PB. †we had 6 rods out and the two runs came to my rods lol, †I gave him both runs and he loved the fight only a big girl gives, †coming up from 45ft deep. † heres the 16lb 4oz.

Another bloody blank. Not a touch on 5 rods (2 of us fishing).

Turns out though that there is a resident seal about a quarter mile downstream that might explain the total lack of fish. Only found this out later in the day from a local.

Weather and ice permitting, I'm out for three days next week on my usual Highland water, so we'll get something then.

Re: Anybody Catching

Post  J Robinson on Wed Jan 03, 2018 7:33 pm

3 day session on a southern Scottish loch (renowned for crayfish) cut very very short. Water level up 4ft due to heavy rain, continued crap weather, no fish to show for 7 hours and 9 rods so stuff it, went home.

I'm done with this winter piking. It's such a poor relation to the summer sport. Miserable conditions, short days, sluggish, disinterested pike and up here in Scotland you're either flooded or frozen. My regular highland haunt has been frozen for nearly 6 weeks now.

Next time I'll be out is when the Highland loch thaws, possibly, depending on weather conditions.

Sorry for being so negative, but the fishing for the last couple of months (when I've been able to get out between the ice) has been crushingly disappointing. I can't wait to leave this country and it's truly miserable climate.
